What ki d of cable is needed for satellite

I left sky tv and returned my q box and all cables. I have joined back again and received a new q box but have no satalite cable that goes in the back of the box and into the airel on the wall. What kind of cable do I need to purchase?

Hi @scottg75

Assume you still have the Satellite dish with Q LNB.

Best satellite cables are WF 100

Twin or two singles are required

@scottg75

Hopefully the 'airel on the wall' is actually a dish connection (typically a pair of connections, unless it's a communal dish)

You need either one or two coaxial cable satellite leads with f-plug connectors (note 'aerial' leads for Freeview are different and not suitable: they don't have screw-thread fittings)

@scottg75 you shouldn't have to purchase anything, sky should supply everything you need free of charge.

Don't think they would supply the cable for satellite connection as they'd assume that was still there. Sounds like the customer has a satellite wall point connection, And not the cable feeding directly from the dish.

No, they wouldn't supply flyleads, you're right,

I think @TimmyBGood has probably hit the nail on the head and that this is a communual dish and the lead from the wall socket to the box has been sent back when they returned all the previous equipment maybe if this is a communual dish there might be spare leads kicking about if the op asks who ever is responsible for the communual system failing that then a short cablke from a well know online store may suffice

@scottg75It should work so long as you previously had Q and not +HD.

Also the LNB in the Q box needs to be set to SCR otherwise it will not work with one cable. You need to go into the engineers menu to change this.

@scottg75 as @bob1234 says yes also

To enter the engineers menu do the follow
press the home button then scroll down to setting and hi-light
do not press select/enter but press 001 then select this takes you into the engineers menu

@scottg75 ... your new Sky Q box will arrive configured to use a Wideband LNB by default, as you are going to connect it to a communal Integrated Reception System you will need to enter the engineer's 'hidden' menu in order to change that receiver's LNB type from Wideband to SCR.

So, press the HOME button on your remote control

If you scroll down to SETTINGS (but do not then press SELECT)

Then quickly press 0,0,1,SELECT

This should then show the LNB type

If it is showing Wideband, change it to SCR

Switch your Sky Q receiver OFF with the remote

Remove the mains power from your receiver for 30 seconds and restart your Sky Q receiver, it should now be configured to use a Single Cable Router feed from your communal IRS dSCR / dCSS distribution multiswitch.

That's a very good point, and a distinct potential flaw in the Sky policy of not having engineer attendance for reinstallation in an address where Q has been previously working: communal systems really need to be flagged for this.

Re: What ki d of cable is needed for satellite

Weirdly, i had a communal Sky Q re-install this week, but it wasn't a self install - that wasn't offered at all during checkout, just a full engineer setup.

@lgladdy

I think that's much more appropriate: subscribers shouldn't really have to be directed to a 'hidden' menu ; )
