Upgrading from super fast to ultrafast

I have just ordered an upgrade from Superfast to Ultrafast. I believe Ultrafast uses the same router as Superfast. Will this mean I'll be able to keep my existing WiFi SSID or will I get a new one? Just hoping to avoid reconnecting tons of devices!

You may be okay then, the fibre should come into your property and connect to an Openreach ONT and then an ethernet cable runs from the ONT to ethernet port 4 on your Sky hub

No not always. Depends which router you have now & whether you are getting ultrafast over G.Fast or FTTP

Re: Upgrading from super fast to ultrafast

Thanks @jamesn123. we have the Sky Broadband Hub, which I think is the most up to date. And I'm pretty sure it will be fibre from a pole just a few metres from the property.

If you still going to be using the sr203 as opposed to g.fast sr204 then you'll probably find an item on your orders called conversion kit . Which is a couple of feet of ethernet cable just in case you are expecting anything else

I've just thought actually, there are two different models depending on the technology used to deliver your broadband.

On your Sky hub does it say Model SR204 or SR203?

Yeah you'll probably get the 'conversion kit' then as mentioned by @cookiemonsteruk

Or if Sky are feeling stupid they'll send a new router, (I've seen a few instances of that on the forum) if that happens you dont need to use the new one.

One thing to do is set the Router Mode to WANoE because when it reboots it tries to bring up a DSL connection first then the WAN connection. Sometime it gets stuck and keeps trying to bring up a DSL connection.

To change the mode, log on to the router and go to the "Advanced" tab and in the "WAN Setup" option change the Router Mode from Auto to WANoE.

Re: Upgrading from super fast to ultrafast

You'll keep the same router as long as you have the Sr 203 model. You'll just be sent a conversion kit which is an Ethernet cable

to connect to the ONT unit. I was supposed to have have ultrafast installed on 10th May but this has been delayed owing to various factors outside of my house which included new ducting needed and other blockages cleared. It's now been rodded and roped so hopefully install won't

take much longer now. To be fair I didn't think it would be straight forward and this far Openreach have been good with doing the extra work.

Re: Upgrading from super fast to ultrafast

@gurinder81 Thank you. I hope your installation issues are resolved soon. My installation is scheduled for 18/6. Should be straightforward as fibre is available from same street pole as current phone line so they should be able just to use the same route into the house. We'll see!
