The only solutions I'm aware of are:

1. copy to VHS, (if you still have one!).

2. Invest in some audio/video capture hardware - not unduly expensive- and copy in real time and standard definiton to a PC hard drive.

Re: Transfer recordings update

Thanks @Mark39 I do have a video/DVD/hard drive recorder in one room and have considered that option but I have over 60+ hours of footage so I think it's going to be a case of picking favourites and just keeping those. It's such a shame that a provider as big as Sky haven't considered this and enabled an option into a USB or something similar as an option

I believe Sky are constrained by the requirements of content rights owners.

Sky don't want to aid people in copyright theft and get on the content owners bad books

A Sky box hard drive is intended to facilitate time-shifted viewing of 'live' television and the consumption of on-demand content: it has never been offered as a media archive and our subscriptions (and contracts) don't cover such use.
