Talking Pictures TV 328 not available

My husband is receiving palliative care at home. He always has the TV on.

I upgraded my package to Sky Glass to get Sky Sports.

BUT we have lost Talking Pictures TV!!! It is his favourite channel.

Please Sky re-engage with TPTV. It would make his last days much happier.

Thank you.

I'm afraid you haven't upgraded to Sky Glass, you've just switched to a different service.

If you had Sky+ HD or Sky Q beforehand then it may have been a better idea to just add Sky Sports to that package. There is no need to switch to Sky Glass just to get Sky Sports, it is available on both Sky+ HD and Sky Q, along with Talking Pictures TV and many other channels.

Perhaps ring Sky and ask if you can revert back to what you had before and add Sky Sports to it instead.

@HeatherMaverick

Sky Glass is not an upgraded from Sky Q

Sky Q and Sky Glass are different products providing different services

If you are still withing the cooling off period i would revert to Sky Q

or

Cancel the Sky Glass for the end of the rolling 31 day contract period and return to Sky Q that way

Re: Talking Pictures TV 328 not available

Thanks for your response.

We only had Sky Broadband previously.

When other half told me to get Sky Sports we decided a new TV would be a better idea than needing several boxes to be connected.

We assumed that Freeview channels wouldn't be affected.

Oh well, thanks for listening.

'Freeview' reception is still available on a Glass TV set, but only by disconnecting it from any internet connection and attaching an aerial to the socket on the rear.  No channels arriving online into a Glass device are either 'Freeview' or 'Freesat': it's all a subscription Sky streaming service.

The most practical way of using Glass that way might be through a wired ethernet switch for its network connection with  no stored WiFi credentials: that way turning off the ethernet switch would cut the internet connection and so should permit Freeview functionality.   You can leave an aerial connected when the set is used for normal streaming services.

Re: Talking Pictures TV 328 not available

To all, I would like to echo previous comments about Sky Glass not supporting FreeView channels and especially Talking Pictures as my wife used to watch this at least 4-6 hours at night and in the morning, she finds the old classic movies relaxing and helped her sleep and get set for the day. It's such a shame that Sky are dictating yet again and limiting channels which are free to the general public via standard terrestrial. We live in an old cottage which has poor terrestrial signals with a rather dodgy aerial on the roof so having Sky for the past 2 years has been superb. Had we known we probably wouldn't have changed and even though we are still within 30 days it's all just too much messing around as we have busy lifestyles plus I've found our bills seem to get messed about with when doing any kind of package change with Sky, direct debit dates change, we always seem to get hit with a large first bill every time etc etc.. anyway, moaning over, Sky Glass is a neat system provided you have a strong enough internet speed, we get 35mbps which just about supports it, we initially had issues with service dropping but Sky kindly sent us a booster free of charge with no additional monthly cost to ensure continuity of service which has worked a treat, thank you Sky, good job and customer service which I know can be hit or miss. I do hope that at some point the free channels will come to Sky Glass once it grows with popularity as I'm sure not having these may put off a lot of potential business.

That depends on those channels providing a live stream (or an app) which Sky can use. Perhaps contact them?

The issue is @Mark39 thst will cost money and these small free to air channels run on a shoestring.

Re: Talking Pictures TV 328 not available

I emailed Talking Pictures to ask if they are likely to appear on Glass and this is what they said:-

".....

Sadly the only people who decide what channels are available on which package are Sky themselves, we have told them many times about the number of complaints we have received..

Let us know how you get on

...."

Over to Sky to resolve this, I think.

@TonysPC I expect you will get a similar response from Sky when you contact them - I would email viewerR@sky.uk - as in the end the argument will be about money which isn't mentioned in the reply you got.

Sky would almost certainly accept Talking Pictures if they wanted to join and could pay. . If Sky didn't it is likely the channel could complain to Ofcom - it is unclear if they technically do regulate Glass or not - who Sky do listen to.

Re: Talking Pictures TV 328 not available

@Chrisee I did email Sky following that reply from Talking Pictures and this was their reply:-

"...

Thank you for your email to Sky regarding Talking Pictures.

We hope to be able to offer more channels on Sky Glass as Glass continues to grow.

We are working closely with independent broadcasters which we hope will increase our channels.

I have noted your interest with our Sky Glass developers for their information.

I think that's somewhat different: a 'package' in that sense is a subscription bundle i.e. Entertainment/Variety/Signature etc.  This isn't the same concept as a channel distributed by satellite broadcast but not through streaming into Glass, which is a technical issue.
