TP-Link AC2100 Slower than SR203

I am on Sky Superfast DSL and was getting about 60 Mbps with the SR203 broadband hub but horrid wifi performance. Could not play an online game and have my wife stream TV at the same time without both the game and tv steaming dropping out or suffering ping spikes.

Replaced the SR203 with a TP-link AC2100, which has fixed the dropout and ping spike issues, but the download speeds are now at only  22 Mbps when testing on speedtest, broadband speed checker and in the TP-link software.

In the DSL status on the TP-link, it does state the following:

That seems to suggest that the line should be capable of 60+ Mbps, but is not delivering it.

I followed the standard steps that are posted on these forums for installing the router and had no issue connecting with username abcdefgh@skydsl and password 1234567890abcdef.

Any thoughts on why the download speeds have been reduced to a 3rd of what they were before?

You are currently getting Current Rate  73.600 Mbps. . Are you testing via wifi? We always suggest trying to use euhernet for gaming, smart tv streaming etc or at least seperate wifi bands as below use allocate your faster devices to 5ghz to prevent them slipping onto 2.4ghz

- Log onto router and go to wifi
- Go to 5ghz band and untick synchronise 2.4ghz and 5ghz
- Go to 5ghz ssid and add -5g at the end
- Save
- Go to individual devices and assign wifi band accordingly

Thanks for your response. I have split the wifi bands and tested again on a laptop via wifi and ethernet and got the following results.

Wireless

2.4G - 22.29 Mbps Down, 18.63 Mbps Up
5G - 22.35 Mbps Down, 18.69 Mbps Up

Wired
Ethernet - 22.00 Mbps Down, 18.7 Mbps Up

Seems that I am getting the full bandwith with the uploads, but the downloads are at a third of the speed the line says is possible.

When you connect a fresh router to the line DLM will re run its optimisation profiles on the line. Sometimes this can cause lower download speeds for around 48-72hrs. When did you replace the Sky hub with the TP-link router?

I updated the firmware to the lastest version and turned off QoS as I found on a forum for BT someone that had a similar issue and turning of QoS resolved it.

After I turned off the QoS it didn't resolve the issue and updating the firmware didn't resolve it immediately either, but this morning the connection was back to 60 Mbps download.

Like you said @jamesn123 , it might have just been time needed to establish the connection again as I installed on Saturday evening and by Monday morning it was back to normal again.

Yeah that would have been DLM. Quite normal
