Slow download speed

Hi,

I have a BT Openreach modem leading to an Asus RT-AX88U router, configured as wireless router mode using PPPOE login and my ISP is Vodafone.

Every device connected to my network whether it be a phone or computer etc works flawlessly and at full speed my ISP can supply (40-50mbps).

The only device that doesn't work well is my sky q box, it downloads at 3mbps all the time, I have spoken to sky on many occasions and of course they blame my ISP (because it isn't them) I have spoken with Vodafone and have confirmation my line is fine, also the fact the every single other device works flawlessly but still sky claim it's not them. I know the sky box can only connect at 2.4ghz but should still be working fine.

Has anyone got this problem or can someone shed some light on this?

I have reset all settings multiple times and have reset routers and modems mulitple times but still slow.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi @Danskii

Any chance you can connect your Q box to the router by Ethernet ?

Hi @Danskii

Do you have any Q mini boxes and if not did you turn off the Q box WiFi when connecting it by Ethernet?

Re: Slow download speed

@oldfella

I did turn off the WiFi in the 001 settings page I turned off 2.4ghz and 5ghz.

As for the mini Q box unfortunately I don't have one.

Sky are infuriating as they obviously say it's not their kit but seeing as everything else works it is their kit, I have seen so many posts on this forum arou d the same thing but have unfortunately not been able to find a resolution.

As a side note I have had a new box which they sent to try and resolve the problem but it didn't do anything.

Also should add it used to work and used to run at full speed on the very same network setup as I still have and I would say within the last year to 6 months is when this problem started.

Hi @Danskii

When you connected the Ethernet you should have done a Network reset on the main Q box.

Network Reset found in   Q box Home - Settings - Setup - Network.
Highlight Status and then select Reset on the right hand side. It's important that you do not WPS and let the box connect by Ethernet.

Then immediately after it connects that's when you need to go into the hidden menu and turn off both bands of WiFi.

Also did you carry out a Reset Settings in the hidden menu of the Q box?

Re: Slow download speed

@oldfella

To confirm I did both of the resets you mentioned.

I reset the network settings part and also in the hidden menu

Everything has been rest multiple times including my entire network recently being reset and re done just so I had tried everything.

Re: Slow download speed

@oldfella

Isn't that the procedure for connecting mini boxes by ethernet? On the main box, after Reset, don't you select Wired Connection?

Re: Slow download speed

Thank you for your responses @oldfella @Rhonny It seems I have exhausted my options and the problem still persists, with Sky CS being very unhelpful other than telling me to use sky broadband as it can connect 5ghz I was hoping someone out there may have had the same issue and managed to resolve it somehow, fingers crossed with this thread up someone may appear.

I fear it comes down to sky maniputing people into buying their broadband.

Hi @Danskii

Should be no reason why an Ethernet connected main Q box should have issues particularly when you can turn all Q box WiFi Off.

Have you checked that the Ethernet cable is fully wired or even tried another cable?

Wired to a BT HH6 here and all Q WiFi is off as my minis are Ethernet or Powerline connected.

Everything just works

Re: Slow download speed

@Danskii

You can't really blame Sky for not knowing how to sort this out (and they're not manipulating you to move to Sky broadband, they're trying to get you to set up your network a bit more simply). I'm not sure your set up is conducive to Sky Q working as you have different router/modem set up to standard and you're with Vodafone, and 4G ISPs aren't the best for Sky.

Maybe if one of the Oracles can move this post to the Broadband section instead of Sky Q, you'll get better and more targeted help with this.

Re: Slow download speed

@Rhonny

I know what you mean.

Just as another confirmation I have recently (when I decided to re do my network) just unplugged everything and connected my original standard Vodafone router up for an out of the box set up and the problem is still the same, so a more simple network makes no difference to my problem.

I think we would all like to believe companies like sky don't like to manipulate people but at the end of the day it's all about the money.

I have seen so many people on this forum and others with the very same problem with little to nothing from sky in terms of answers as the problem is 100% with the sky equipment and all they do on the phone is tell me if I use sky broadband it won't happen as they can then connect through 5ghz as that option is locked due them saying it stops problems. Even though 99% of equipment enable the use of 2.4 and 5ghz networks
