It's a weird issue to be sure. 

The fact that a change to DNS seems to fix it temporarily for some, but only temporarily, is just weird. 

We also had limited success downloading non-HD versions of some programmes, but that was short-lived. 

Fortunately the software update seems to have fixed things for now, but I appreciate that doesn't get us any closer to understanding the cause or why it doesn't work for everyone 😞

I've updated software, and it's made no difference. Unplugged again, disconnected from Wi-Fi and remote and reinstalled. It's getting very annoying. It'll record if programme isn't on but won't download numerous different shows on different channels.

The software version that my device upgraded to is Q180.000.17.00L (5f5ez10). I also changed the DNS setting to 8.8.8.8.

 

Making both of these changes seem to fix the issue, could of course have been a fluke ...

I have just done my 3rd software upgrade currently on Q180.000.16.00L 

Tried rebooting it still didn't work with settings at auto and then changed to 8888 and 1111

so I will try another software upgrade and see if that works

Is the software version number changing each time? If so then it sounds like you could be a few versions behind, just keep updating until it won't update any more.

I have BT fibre (500mbps) and the service was running fine up until about a week or so ago, in that time I've upgraded the sky Q box from 32B0xx to 32B2xx (for HDR output) and it has made no difference to content on demand. Similarly updating from Q140 to Q180 firmware makes no difference either. 

 

The only thing I have noticed is that the content on demand might download more successfully if you are trying to download at 3am and sending multiple download requests. I managed to download most of "the Wire" season 2 this way.

 

I get the feeling/suspicion Sky are actually throttling Content on Demand for non-sky broadband users, because it does seem to download (still hit or miss) in the small hours of the morning when demand for content is perhaps very low.

 

At the moment I won't even consider buying something from Sky Store on the basis I may never be able to enjoy my purchase because of this fault in their service. 

 

This is a major failure in leadership at Sky, to not formaly acknowledge and communicate the issue to subscribers and to then not offer an explanation and a timeline for a fix.

 

Why the total silence from Sky?

When you said that I checked and realised that the 5th update I have done on my box

it hasn't chnged at all yet it still lets me update it and saying update in progress.

so to get to the

Q180.000.16.00L has taken 3 updates to do.

yet I still can't download anything from on demand or catch up

Others have mentioned Q180.000.17.00L. It's possible it's not yet on the DL stream so you have to wait for it to be on the DL stream or wait for your box to be updated.

I have just spoken to Sky. This may be a repeat of what has been mentioned above but for now the problem has been resolved. I was taking through the steps to edit the DNS. I changed the numbers to 8888 and I can now download. I was also told that 1111 may also work, or alternate the numbers while the issue is fixed on a permanent basis. They are very much aware of whats going on. No mention of a subscription refund was mentioned, I'll bear that in mind though

I have had same problem with Downloading (on BT) HDR Sky Q box. 
landscapers would not download so I changed format to UHD and the download worked 🤷

I just spoke with an advisor who told me that I am the only having this issue, and that I need to buy a new Sky box to fix it.

Sorry the HDR version is not able to be downloaded. The HDR version looks quite good.

@Mike54  That's ridiculous! Sky should really make sure everyone on their help desk are singing from the same hymn sheet. There's no way you're the only one with the issue.
