@Cs11328 There is lots of variety of software and hardware from a Sky perspective, so you need to specify what version of box you have and what the software level was and what you are now running so that we have some perspective. 🙂

@Neil-2112 Correct, but it takes time to rollout changes to every bodies hardware, so if you know that there is a new version of the software, you can sometimes force the update through quicker than would normally be the case.

I upgraded the software today, have left the DNS on the manual google one and power cycled and still have the issue, albeit tonight seems to only be failing less frequently but maybe just lucky,  if you keep trying and do a permanant delete on anything that has stated and just try again.

So the upgrade hasn't done anything, I doubt they have a fix this quickly else they would make it known, perhaps that have added some possible fixes and debugging but I doubt they work that quickly.

I would not do a hard reset! 

Suggest do the DNS and restart and just keep trying...

Hi all,

I came across this thread as I have recently been having a problem with downloading and every time I try and download it comes up with

Failed, item unavailable 

glad to see I am not only one, I have read through the messages on here and tried several things that have been suggested and nothing has worked for me but it is very frustrating when all I want is to watch an episode.

I haven't contacted sky yet but I will be in morning as this has been happening for over a week now and still haven't been able to download anything. 
I am also on BT internet

I have been having connectivity issues for months but no problems with downloads previously. I have changed broadband provider 2 weeks ago, from BT to EE and now can't download a thing. Netflix also not downloading. 

I thought the issues might have been my change to EE but now see lots of people having the same issue. It's poor that Sky are responding as they are to some of you.

Has anyone sorted this issue out? I'm not great with technical issues so would appreciate someone giving me easy details of how to change the settings please.
I have a SkyQ 2tb box & a BT hub 6 router.

If you go to settings 

then to status - network connection 

then network setup 

then to advanced settings and then to 

edit IP settings 

then down to DNS server 

and put 8 8 8 8 in the boxes and confirm 

but need to do this on all sky boxes if you have mini ones as well.

I did this and it temporarily work but now gone back to download failed but I was able to download all the episodes I needed to in my series

Morning all. 

I've been having exactly the same problem as described in this thread for a little while now. 

Last night I read through the responses here, found the DNS setting 'fix' and tried that (using both Google and the quad one DNS) and that didn't work. 

Then I forced a software update, and that didn't work either. 

I realised though that I'd forgotten to take out the manual DNS setting when I did the software update, so I removed the manually set entry by resetting the network settings to automatically get all the details, deleted any part-downloaded programmes, and rebooted the box. 

Everything seems to be working okay ... for now 😕 My guess is that Dky have made some change to their CDN, that they have some hard-coded entries in older software versions, and that they've simultaneously managed to screw up their DNS entries somehow. That feels like a stretch though and as I say, I'm just guessing. Whatever, it seems to be fixed at the moment for me. 

I don't know what software version I was on before, but I'm now on: Q180.000.16.00L (5f5ezi8)

Hardware version is: 32B12D

Running over WiFi through a BT fibre connection.

how did you do a software update?

I haven't done an update but have tried everything else and when I did sky box and mini and changed DNS to 8888 it worked for a short time and now gone back to download failed

Downloading OK this morning so definitely an intermittent Sky problem. Changing settings and blaming BT is not the answer. Sky need to sort out their systems and provide an appropriate update

    > Software download

It'll take a long time. Eventually the message will change telling you that it'll update the next time the box goes into standby. At that point hit the power button on your remote and the box will switch off and the update will be applied. 

When it's done power back on and go back into the network settings and set that to auto again to undo the change you made to the DNS settings.

@AngelaPhoenix   I wouldn't worry about it be EE as they are a BT company, no difference just a bit cheaper.
