...just in case they try and book a engineer visit for you ( this was suggested to me earlier by a Sky Cancellations representative as a possible solution ). Of course I just laughed and said do you expect me to believe 1000's of Sky Q boxes just suddenly stopped working properly and your engineer will come out and sort it ?... ridiculous.

I can only apologise for the inconvenience caused by this.
I'm very sorry that an engineer visit was suggested as this wouldn't be a way to get this resolved. Instead, we can only advise waiting for this fix to be put in place by our tech team. We hope to have this amended as soon as we possibly can.

so Sky's advice is 'wait' for a unspecified period of time .. 😂 and pray I suppose.

Another example, not the first time, but Sky History channel, Mountain Men, series 10, ep 8. 

 

On BT full fibre, sky q 2TB box connected via Ethernet.

 

Have set DNS to 1.1.1.1  no change

I posted a few days ago following a sit engineer visit.  Changing my desk settings has made a difference and allowed me to download stuff.  Sometimes I get a failed,  network issue,  but if I persist it normally downloads. 

 

I called sky again this eve to register that I still have an issue following the engineer visit.  I mentioned I wanted to make sure it was noted on my account in case I need to claim back in the future. 

 

He said it would be unlikely I could claim as the on demand downloads is a free service.  Interestingly he wasn't aware of the issue.  

 

He put 5 pounds on to my account in the meantime as a good will gesture.

I having been having this problem since 29th November I was promised a call back for yesterday to see if the problem was resolved.  Surprise surprise no phone call well there was one from Sky mobile.  I was told it is now a known issue and they were working through on a case by case basis.  They could also see from my account I should be getting a call back.  As it stands the ability to download programmes, films etc is a selling point to upgrade to Sky Q without it what's the point.  You have to download to watch a film so I a, not getting what I am paying for.

I think when they offered me a engineer I said out of respect to the poor engineer I'd decline and do my bit for the environment and not waste his time and energy ... lol. What's a engineer going to do. They're really scrambling to buy time.

Sadly it's a bit like Theme parks ... if two or three of your rides are broken you dont get a refund ... they catch you in a contract and can mess you around with loop holes and you can't even cancel. Just so don't forget it when your renewal date comes round.

I would like to know why this issue happens mostly with BT. What is it with BT and/or Sky that is causing the problem.

We have been having the same issue for the last two days. Can't download on demand. Live recording is okay. Have tried rebooting both my hub and the sky box. Nothing works. All settings are fine. It tries to download but then says failed. Item unavailable.

It's not just related to BT, I'm on Fibrenest 500mb and have my own router which has a fairly good processor, downloads aren't failing but are painfully slow. Downloading The Matrix now and it's going to take around 3 hours, meanwhile I'm able to download the same film on my Nvidia shield in 10 minutes.

 

I would imagine that Sky have not anticipated the sheer pressure on their servers with the release of Sky glass and the holiday season, simple fix is for them to buy more server space.

You could be right that because of Sky Glass, Sky servers are overloaded. But I want to know is why is this happening mostly to BT subscribers? That's what I don't get. I would say that most Sky subscibers are using Sky if it's DSL or someone else if it's not. So that would mean that most Sky customers are not using BT.

Sky engineer replaced my box - and set new box to use GOOGLE DNS (8.8.8.8)

 

This "solution" was not a solution.
