Re: SkyQ Download Failed Item Unavailable

If it's a BT issue, why does it download non-Sky stuff and fails with Sky stuff?

Re: SkyQ Download Failed Item Unavailable

Last night I went into Setting on the SKY Q and changed the IP address to manual and changed the DNS from my router DNS to 8.8.8.8 (google DNS server).  Since then items that would refuse to download are now downloading

If it is a Sky issue, then why are we not seeing many more posts by those not with BT? It has to be a BT issue given that most people with this issue are on BT.

Re: SkyQ Download Failed Item Unavailable

So BT have somehow done something that allows it to detect when you're downloading something from Sky, but only a Sky show, not anything non-Sky, and it only affects downloads on the Sky box itself, downloads to anything else using the same BT network are fine....ok 🙂

I'm sure it's purely coincidental that my Sky box updated itself a couple of days ago and the issue has only started since then.

I'm not with BT and the router I am using is a TP-Link router and I can download Sky programs. If it was a problem with Sky, I too would be having these problems.

Re: SkyQ Download Failed Item Unavailable

@LGUser this is an issue with Sky, this has been caused by the latest firmware update released from sky.   This is not the 1st time sky boxes have had issues with BT routers (surprisingly sky routers are never effected(tin hats please)).

Speaking to an open reach engineer, he is aware of the problem ( he's been sent to a few properties) and will be solved with Sky pushing a firmware fix out.

Re: SkyQ Download Failed Item Unavailable

This is doing the same for me and I am also with BT. But why would it only be selected items that fail to download? All apps work etc. It doesnt make sense that all aspects of Sky Q work except for certain downloads. I was able to download eps 1 and 2 of Chucky but not ep 3. Then after a few attempts ep 3 downloaded and ep 4 would fail. Also those episodes that were able to be downloaded had picture failure after fast-forwarding through the adverts.
I dont see how a BT broadband router could cause these specific events.

Re: SkyQ Download Failed Item Unavailable

Spoke to sky last night, was told to change the DNS server to 8888 if that didn’t work then try 1111, I haven’t tried this yet,  worried in case it goes wrong! Hoping sky will rectify the problem

Re: SkyQ Download Failed Item Unavailable

I don't know what the problem is, but it affecting mostly BT users. Can anyone explain why that is if it's a Sky problem?

Re: SkyQ Download Failed Item Unavailable

Its a simple change and you can allways put it back.

Re: SkyQ Download Failed Item Unavailable

Can anyone explain why if it's a BT issue it's only started after a Sky firmware update and only affects Sky's own content and only via the Sky box (which has just had a firmware update) and yet not other devices on the same network.

I suspect the answer is no, but is there anyway to role back to the previous firmware version on the Q? That could at least rule out the update being the issue, or not. If we're waiting for another firmware update to fix it, then we could be living with it for a while yet.

Re: SkyQ Download Failed Item Unavailable

@LGUser  Because the issue is with their box only and their content, the content works fine on Sky Go on the same network.

Re: SkyQ Download Failed Item Unavailable

I think all firmware versions are controlled by Sky and working as a software tester I think most companies have a policy of fix forward not roll back these days

Re: SkyQ Download Failed Item Unavailable

Probably right, put out new firmware if it messes something up, oh well, they'll just have to live with it for a few months or more while we decide if we can put it right again.

Re: SkyQ Download Failed Item Unavailable

I guess it passed regression testing as they only checked using a Sky broadband router
