I assume that Sky Glass will also monitor and police your internet streams and block you from watching any pirate movie/sport feeds - not that this would concern the fine upstanding citizens of this forum.

Of course not: content like that never appears in any Sky GUI.

Sky as an ISP might be required to do so by a court order, but that's entirely different.

@Q-tipsOf course it could be done but your ISP could anyway should they wish too as can your browser even if you use "Tor". BUT very unlikely as the size of data an the processing power needed to do it would not make it worth while.

I couldn't access your FT link but with Sky about to spend a fortune on the biggest product launch ad campaign ever in this country, I fear that most consumer media won't want to endanger their slice of the pie by being too critical. The printed media especially are in parlous straits and need the cash.

To my knowledge no one has been able to pirate content via apps on Sky Q either.

Typically priating content is streamed usingapps  external set top boxes.  And there will be no way for the Sky Glass TV to detect this.

None, of course. But I thought other set-top boxes could be connected to this TV. (If not, that's another reason to think twice about diving in.)

Anyone know where we are at with pricing on this ie if we are all ready on q with discounts/special offers and decide to update will these be carried over and price increased by the cost of which ever tv we chose??

Yes, they can, but then that's HDMI, not IP data with an identifiable source in the outside world.  While I guess it's theoretically possible that a 'smart' internet-connected television could be used to attempt to identify 'pirate' content from HDMI (or straight off screen), that's both incredibly unlikely and equally possible from any such set, not just one with Sky branding: if a consumer is that paranoid then they probably shouldn't be accessing illegitimate material in the first place...

Thanks, that's what I thought. So it might not be beyond ridiculous to suggest that Sky could theoretically build into their TV some newly developed secret sniffer technology. When one company owns everything then anything is possible.

Nor would I blame them for protecting their own IP; but I do baulk at the prospect that an all-seeing Big Brother might be sitting in the corner of my living room.

I get that but I haven't read any reports of ISPs pursuing consumers of pirated material with much diligence - and this is a new scenario where, for the first time, one company could own the content, the delivery mechanism and the display method. New rules and new tech could apply.
