No. It's one or the other.

Re: Sky to launch Sky Q without dish by Xmas based on Xfinity X1 box
I would be interested to see if there could be any merging of the technology such that a Puck could be used in a Sky Q system instead of a minibox. Or something to overcome the Sky Q minibox limitation in NOT being able to show UHD (or higher) content.

They don't say what speed the internet ports support. I hope they have taken the opportunity to upgrade them to gigabit ports.

I suppose it's also possible that the TV manufacturers could build Sky Glass in some form into their hardware so that consumers still have the option of buying their favourite TV.

What would be the benefit of gigabit when the most they'd need is 25-30Mbit/s to stream UHD HDR content?

@tarbat Just noticed that the reviewer guide shows the Amazon Prime icon as well as many of the other apps already on Q, although admittedly not all of them.

Interesting launch, the geek in me is very tempted!
No sign of Apple TV+ in the apps list yet which is a shame but the addition of the BT Sport app is interesting (it's shown in the reviewer guide), this would bring the UHD HDR stream of BT Sport Ultimate to Sky.
Also noting the TV and pucks support WiFi 6, can we have a new Sky Hub please? 😁

If that's true, why hasn't it been possible to stream UHD HDR to a Mini over the current Q system?

Because the ethernet speed isn't the issue with streaming UHD HDR to minis?
That requires the minis support UHD (which they don't - the output chipset only supports 1080) .
There's also not been official confirmation from Sky as to whether the Q box could stream UHD satellite content (whether live or recorded) to another device.
Pucks will get the video stream directly from source (be that Sky or Netflix) and not via the Glass. They'll just communicate with that to ensure the puck and Glass are on the same network.

Ok so I've all ready got sky q in the living room and just say for example I was thinking of buying a new tv for the new extension and getting a mini box...if I were to buy the smallest glass tv would this connect to my q all ready installed say by signing into the glass by email or something and act as a mini or is ot two completely different platforms ,or would you have to cancel q and go full glass and puck??

@Desdee You can only have Q or Glass. They won't supply both.

Re: Sky to launch Sky Q without dish by Xmas based on Xfinity X1 box
@Desdee You would have to cancel your Q equipment and replace all with pucks. Frustrating for people like me who have spent £400 on 4 mini boxes and now have to return them to spend another £200 on 4 pucks. I find the up front cost for the mini boxes/pucks a bit of a scam since you have to pay the subscription as well and have to return them if you leave sky!

Re: Sky to launch Sky Q without dish by Xmas based on Xfinity X1 box
I would assume them launching a sky app for other branded tv are out of the question then as I'm sure there tv sales would by quite low if we all kept our tvs used the app and sent back the boxes
