How do I keep all of the movies I've purchased when sky is cancelled and they want the box back?

No-one gets to keep a Q box without a current Sky subscription, even for playback of content purchased through Sky: see the section 'Ownership of equipment and the viewing card' in the Q Contract (.pdf). Any 'Buy and Keep' items from Sky Store remain associated with your online Sky account and can be accessed as described in that link.

Hi, You own the movies as you correctly point out, but I'm afraid the box remains the property of sky and must be returned to avoid a penalty charge.
The movies will still be available to watch in the "sky store" app on lots of devices.

Strictly you do not 'own' the movies - you purchase a limited licence to watch them.

Even if you pay the non-return fee, the box still isn't yours and Sky will disable it.

They claim this but I know people who have bought boxes months ago and are still using them.

We never really own anything in life, we will all die one day and can't take things with us.

@Kevin+j+v They won't be Q boxes. Sky own the Q equipment. Sky+ HD boxes could be purchased but will only work as a freeview box after cancellation of Sky subscriptions. Sky will invalidate the viewing card so no Sky. All SkyQ equipment is loaned and must be returned to Sky once the contract is terminated.

@Kevin+j+v When you say they 'bought boxes months ago' you mean they handled stolen goods. You can't buy a Sky Q box legally.

@Kevin+j+v Well I never knew this existed before
so you just login to this with your SkyID and anything you've bought can be okayed on it even though you can't use skyGo or a physical box once your subscription expires?

That is correct @Kevin+j+v although once cancelled the account might need changing to a Sky Store only one then you can access your purchases via the Sky Go app, website or an app built in TVs.

They are sky q mini boxes, sky don't always block them successfully, like I said my mate has been running one from gumtree for months now.

Why don't you?
As I have already said I know of two people who are running sky q boxes" bought" from gumtree, don't believe everything sky tell you.
