Sky cables work on sky q box but not sky+HD

Hello,

We have moved into a house that has the dual sky cables and we have a sky+HD box we want to use for freesat. The sky+HD box says it is receiving no signal. However, when I tried my friends sky Q box, that worked just fine, is any about to point out why it works with the sky Q box but not the sky+HD?

That means there's a Sky Q LNB on the dish, and a Freesat signal can't get through one of those.

Is there any way of being able to recieve the freesat signal through it? The sky cables are the only ariel cables we have.

When you say the dish has dual cables do you mean it has two twin pairs of cables from it ie 4 cables total or do you mean there is one pair cable with two connectors to the dish.

If the former

where is the other paired twin cable going - check the box works on those and just switch the connectors other on the dish

If the latter

You will need to change the LNB in the dish back to a standard one or a Hybrid one.

Alternatively you could buy a freesat box that works with a sky Q LNB (wideband) which I understand from other poststhe newer 4K boxes will do.

If there is an aerial in to the room there is very little difference between what you get on freesat and what you get on freeview.

@pembs123  Did you find a way of doing this, We need to cancel Skyq for financial reasons and have a spare normal sky+ box which I believe we can't plug into the skyq cables? We just want free tv but as we live in the middle of no where and don't have a normal aerial I don't know what to do.

@LeaTra to revert to using a Sky+ box you would need to have the LNB on the arm of your dish changed. The one used for Sky Q isn't compatible with Sky+

@Mark39  Thankyou, Boo I thought so! Is that something Sky will come out and sort do you know? I just want to be able to watch free normal tv as we can't pay for Sky anymore but I'm stuck with no tv if I cancel.

No, as you'd be asking them to do so in order to not be a customer of theirs....

You'd have to pay a local independent to come and swap it for you, I'm afraid.

I wasn't sure if it was classed as some equipment they'd need back seen as they need everything back, Must be the only thing they dont ask for back 😄
