Sky broadband keeps dropping out

Hi All,


I was hoping someone can some shed light on why my Sky broadband might be dropping out seemingly random. The broadband drops out sometimes several times a day, sometimes every few days ("Line 0: VDSL2 link down" from the Sky Q router log) and it dropped 25 times in the last 14 days. It does not seem to be the Sky Q router problem, as I tried with a tp link TD-W9970 and the same thing happens as well.
The noise downstream margin seems a bit on the low side (~3.7dB). Does this indicate some sort of line noise or small fault?
I tried all possible connection tests on the Sky web page and they return all is good.

Could you go to the support menu on the router and copy and paste the last 2 days of syslog removing ip addresses before posting

Many thanks indeed for the reply, here is the log from 08-10 March. I had to replace 03-08, 03-09 and 03-10 with M-08, M-09 and M-10, the forum was complaining it is too repeated.

From what i can see the line is going down due to fluctuations in speed from 80Mbps to 70Mbps indicating dynamic line management is picking up some degree of fault and adjusting speed in favour of stability .However at the minute does not appear to meet the criteria for a line fault in that the line is not dropping more than 10 times a day nor is the speed  dipping below the minimum guarantee from what i can see

Many thanks @cookiemonsteruk for the answer. Yes, the speed does not drop below the minimum, but it is rather annoying when you are in the middle of a meeting and the broadband drops. 10 times a day threshold seems rather high to me.

That may be possible , happened to me as the upstream was fluctuating between 3 and 12 Mbps and oddly seemed to dlm it on that upstream fluctuation more than downstream. If it can be done it would be the network team

Thanks@cookiemonsteruk , I may give them a call to see if they can do something. Not much of a substantial difference between 80 or 60Mbps, at least to me, if it is makes it more stable.

@cookiemonsterukI had a chat with quite a nice person on the Sky end. I did not need to explain too much apart from that I have tried a different router, another microfilter and the router logs of course.

 

They told me that they cannot throttle down the speed, as it is automated. Nevertheless, he said they can see this unusual behaviour of the speed going up/down and they think it is some sort of issue at their end and will investigate. Hopefully it will get resolved. I will get back if it gets resolved, someone else might have similar problems. Many thanks again @cookiemonsteruk

Many thanks @cookiemonsteruk for the help/suggestions. After phoning Sky it is completely fixed, no drop of internet for the past 10 days. Credit to Sky as well, they did fix it, although It is not enirely clear what they did, but an openreach engineer came, measured everything, including tracing the line to the cabinet and could not find a single thing. He said that they must have tweaked something, but was a bit surprised at the ~3.5dB downstream SNR/noise margin. He said that it is more usual to be ~6dB.
