Sky Q installation in new build house
Hi,
Recently had Sky Q installed into a new build house. When the engineer came we told her that there was cabling already installed internally in the loft directly to the living room that could be used from sky (as this is what the builders had told us).
Without going up to the loft and just from look at back of house from outside, the engineer said they wouldn't be able to install the dish there as it was in the wrong place and said they had to install in much lower down and run a cable on the outside of the house.
We spoke with the builders of the house again who said that this should not of been the case and all the other houses in the area and next to us have had sky installed through the internal cabling and not needed cable running on the outside of the house.
Was wondering if this is an issue that anyone else has had with a new build and if a sky engineer could visit again to have another look or if it will take a private aerial company to fix it as the cabling on the outside house looks pretty ugly.
Been trying to ring Sky but not getting very far.
Cheers.

Re: Sky Q installation in new build house
Do your neighbours have Sky+HD rather than Sky Q? I don't think the internal satellite face plates work with Sky Q, and so Q needs other cabling.

Re: Sky Q installation in new build house
@drmt1989 the decision of where the dish goes and whether existing cabling can be used is down to the engineer when they arrive on site.
It is relatively rare where cables have been installed by builders that these can be used for Sky Q which is incompatable with many systems used to combine tv aerial and satellite signals which are commonly used in new builds. Another issue is builders rarely leave enough spare cable to connect to the LNB on the dish which of course has to point to the satellites which are above the equator and Those cables should not be joined if possible. Last issue is thatfor safety reasons Sky engineers are not allowed to enter unboarded lofts.
However you can complain to Sky and they are likely to send out a manager to review the install and if the developer is right and other homes have had Sky Q connected using their cabelling it is likely the manager will get the install tidied up.
