Sky Q Box - Regular Internet Disconnections

Hi Everyone,

I have an original Sky Q 2TB box (32B0xx) that I've had since shortly after Sky Q was released in 2016 plus 1 x Sky Q Mini.  Over the last couple of weeks I have recently started to experience regular internet dropouts and am having to reboot the Sky Q every day or two for it to reconnect.

In mid-March I did swap my router from a Virgin Hub 3 to an Eero 6 to improve the WiFi around my home and this has massively improved the WiFi for all my devices (I'm on Virgin's 350Mb package).  The Sky Q also worked fine for the first few weeks of having the Eero but for the last couple of weeks I've been experiencing the dropouts.

The Sky Q box is less than a foot away from the router and sat right next to it is an Apple TV which has no problem streaming in 4K HDR but yet the Sky Q keeps dropping out.  Hardwiring is not an option as I can't hardwire the Sky Q mini so I need to keep it on WiFi.

I have multiple devices around my home that all work fine with the Eero WiFi so the only problem is the Sky Q box.  I've seen other threads with similar issues so is this just a common issue with Sky Q boxes?  Could my box be starting to develop a fault?  Or as this is a nearly six year old box, is it due to older WiFi card in my box?  Do the newer boxes have better WiFi cards or are they still manufactured the same?

Grateful for any advice on what I could try and do to resolve this.

Thanks in advance 👍🏻

hi @Superblade7

Your main box can be connected to the router via ethernet even if the mini is not - I have BT and my main box has always been connected to the router via ethernet & my mini connects fine using the wifi generated by the main box

I have read that, although it seems odd, that being too close to a router can actually cause problems

Hi @Superblade7

One thing you could consider is a pair of Powerline Lan units;  One connected by Ethernet to the router and  one connected by Ethernet to the mini.

You could then connect the Main Box by Ethernet and then turn off all the WiFi on the Q boxes.
