Re: Sky HDR

Interesting snippet from a posting in the Sky forum on AV forums;

from a broadcast engineer for sky Colin sladen on Twitter

I hope those that can enjoy this new era of TV - let me know what you think! To those not able; I’m sorry we couldn’t find a way to add support to the 1st generation of Sky Q. We really tried everything - simply the boxes were born just before the standards were set.

@NewtonBoy  As far as Sky have told us there is currently no mechanism to get a new box to get HDR. Boxes which are faulty will get switched with a refurbished box which could well be another v1 box it just depends what the engineer has on the van at the time. Think in practice Sky dont track the version as separate items.

So throwing your toys out the pram could easily be totally pointless. Some people may win others may lose. Suspect it will get fixed at some point but currently I would not get too worked up.

"A problem she didn't realise either way?" I've asked her numerous times if she's had problems. Nothing. No offence but please don't make assumptions just to back up your point. Cheers.

Re: Sky HDR

@gems+151   The 2016 KS8000/8500/9000/9500 most certainly can so saying all 2016 Samsungs cannot get HDR-HLG via plugged in devices is correct, if that is what you are saying.  Samsung released firmware over 2 years ago to allow this.  They won't get HDR-HLG via their Native apps but the Sky Q Boxes plug in via HDMI

His twitter account is definitely worth a read on this subject.

Just respoding to your post, post 712.

Re: Sky HDR

@rozel I'm not saying all because I don't know I'm just going off what was said maybe the higher end models of that particular year have been updated and the lower class ones haven't just an idea as that's been done with Sony's their old TVs used to reserve the top specs for triliminux displays yet the lower model from the same year didn't it could be the same

Re: Sky HDR

@lettice  responding to your post 750.  Too many people, as I have said and @Rhonny anticipated, too many people are jumping in without reading the threads properly - it bugs me when people, who are trying to help, don't read up and stop asking the same questions, or non-relavant ones.  And the more senior members should know better, again as I have said earlier in this thread.  Just saying.

All these worries and concerns about "gang of lemurs" and similar, I could be more concerned if there was something I wanted to watch.

Back to 1080i and quicker download times.

See the HDR programmes have now appeaerd in the On Demand > UltraHD section listed under Documentaries and Top Picks

It might be worth Sky flagging HDR in the programme description text for anything HDR as HDR HLG.

Most UHD (SD) programmes say 'Also in UHD' in the programme description.

Re: Sky HDR

Well, this is a bit of an adventure, isn't it? Takes my mind of my sciatica anyhow. Always a silver lining.

32b12b0627088427a is my box. I think, difficult to read. Anyhow it must be HLG. Because...at first it didn't work. HLG in settings on TV was greyed out. Switched picture on Samsung q90 to movie or standard and now the HLG control in settings on the tv has gone from greyed out to active. Increased HLG to maximum. Increased brightness and contrast too. And something else, can't remember. I don't think I got the HLG pop up though?

Found Lemur by voice search. And yes, I'm fairly sure this is HLG. Colours more vivid. Quite stunning in fact.

However, do I really want to keep altering all my settings when switching from Sky HLG to Netflix, prime and "ordinary" Sky UHD?

Edit: applied Picture Settings to "Current Source Only" so switching problem solved

Edit 2: No it isn't. It keeps the same settings when switching back to Sky HD because of course it's the same source. So have to alter all the tv settings again and Sky box from 2160 to 1080i. Damn!

@poppymarshall Assuming you can already get UHD changing the cable will make no difference.
