Re: Sky HDR
This is what's needed the goblue dongle is so you can turn it off or on or change settings through an app on your phone

Re: Sky HDR
the £130 ish price compared to what Sky may cahrgae and the rest of th setup seems acceptable.
Just when you thought you'd seen it all...
Yes, £130 when compared to a completely made up and spurious number than exceeds 130 is indeed acceptable. But why spend any money at all just to see a very limited amount of content (that you wouldn't have bothered watching otherwise) before knowing for sure what Sky's plans are? Any sense of reason around HDR has gone out the window. I would expect an admin fee at most to swap out the box if you've had it 2+ years.
But if you've got £130 burning a hole in your pocket, go ahead and buy the item...

Re: Sky HDR
I am just inserting and removing at moment but will check out dongle. Alternatively I can use my laptop to configure / re configure. The server does give some options when generating string, just had not had chance to to try.

@Rhonny wrote:Lease is where you use something where you don't take title but pay a use fee.
In return for a periodic payment. The up-front fee doesn't qualify this as a lease.
And in any case, this is so pointless. Your box is LOANED TO YOU - exactly as the contract. There is no point trying to convey otherwise.
The best description is that it is a "conditional loan" the conditions are you return it at the end of the subscription and implied that you take good care of it.

Re: Sky HDR
@Paulonthetelly Is that film any good? I'm a keen student of history so tend to pick holes in programmes if they are not factually accurate which tends to get me in trouble with Mrs Piesarus.

Re: Sky HDR
Well they say "there is one born every minute"👻
Not exactly difficult to work out who😜
Are those that spend on £130 on this gadget the same ones as those that moan about their Sky subscription going up by £10 a month, I wonder?

Even though Sky have said they intend to have the box swap process in place before they launch large amounts of HDR content?
If you've got money to burn, I guess it makes sense buying one.

Re: Sky HDR
Box swap means I lose recordings ,( again)
preference would probably be additional box so have uhd in 2 rooms. Coincidentally have a second dish from SKY + days!

@da1e7150 wrote:if any one wants to try with a v1 box that needs a hdfury linker I have that and the goblue dongle.
Even an HDFury isn't capable of converting BT.709 into WCG BT.2020!!
As a test on my v1 box, I was able to manually switch my TV into HLG mode, and whilst I did get more specular highlights (HDR), it's not possible to create a BT.2020(P3) wide colour gamut from content with a narrow BT.709 colour space.

Re: Sky HDR
Even if you've got money to burn, it still makes no sense to buy one to solve a problem that doesn't really exist and even if it's does, will be resolved in the next few months for at the worst, a fraction of the cost of this "snake oil" gadget.
"A fool and their money" etc🤷♂️

@Lp12man wrote:I got HLG from my v1 box just needed a third part device to tell tv it was HLG. So you can solve but you have to buy something. Alternatively get box swapped and lose recordings!
There is no device that can create HLG from SDR content. You'll still be stuck in a BT.709 colour space. You'll get false colours if you somehow flag the content as BT.2020 when it's actually BT.709.
Trust me, I've already verified that by comparing a v2 and v1 box.
If all you want to do is force your TV into HLG mode, then on my Panasonic that's achieved in the TV's menu - OPTION SETTINGS : HDMI EOTF TYPE : and then change HDMx to HLG instead of AUTO. Will achieve the same result without spending money on other equipment.
