Re: Sky HDR
Another interesting quirk I have found is that if I have been watching HDR and then go back to the home screen it looks washed out and I have to turn the box to standby and back on to get it back to normal.
I don't know if the box or TV are sticking on HDR settings.

Re: Sky HDR
On my C9 it pops up HDR HLG in the top right when playing the lemurs program, the picture is noticably more colourful and bright compare to the HD version.

Re: Sky HDR
@bob1234 so do you have to make any settings changes to either the Q box or the TV in order to confirm that you're watching HDR (assuming one has compatible Q box and TV)? If not then for me it's something of an anticlimax. I'm probably being spoilt by Dolby Vision.

Re: Sky HDR
@chrismuk How odd, I do get the notification for DV top right of screen and same for HDR for Prime video, but nothing on SkyQ with my C9. What am I missing?

Re: Sky HDR
@Piesarus apart from the change in picture quality there is no obvious indication on the TV, I could only tell by toggling HDR on/off.
Mine is a Sony people have posted that the "action menu" shows if it is showing HDR on mine it just shows the HDR setting. If I have it set to HLG it shows that even if I am watching a SD broadcast.

Re: Sky HDR
@bob1234 This could be a similar issue to the one I'm getting, not just for SkyQ but for my Roku and Amazon sticks, all of which are plugged into my receiver. I have to toggle the inputs on either my Receiver or TV (ie. x to y and back to x, where x = the correct input) to get HDR-HLG to kick in. Then after I've stopped viewing and go back to non-HDR viewing, I have to toggle again otherwise the colours are Vivid x 5 lol!. My TV is a Samsung KS9500 and I'm currently tearing my hair out to resolve this.
I'm currently contemplating, adding a "toggle routine" to my Harmony Hub's Activities' routines for these devices when switching on or off. Hmm, I'll start to plan this cos it may be more complicated lol!
Do you think your issue is the same (ish) ?

Re: Sky HDR
@Piesarus I'm not sure, I didnt have to change any settings on my TV or SkyQ box, just downloaded the UHD version of the progamme and it played in HLG. As well as the popup in the top right, the picture settings will also indicate that its receiving a HDR signal as you get different picture options to choose from.
As someone mentioned there are options for the HDMI inputs to enable wide color etc. check these are on for the HDMI port your sky box is connected to.

Re: Sky HDR
I don't see how they can charge seeing as how we don't own the boxes. We only lease them from Sky.

That's another reason why they won't charge.

Re: Sky HDR
@Piesarus wrote:TBH unless I'm missing something, although my C9 supports HDR and I have downloaded the Lemur programme (I have a UHD subscription and a compatible Q box) the picture quality looks little different to a HD broadcast. It certainly isn't in Dolby Vision league. Anyone? Do I need to alter any settings on the Q box.
You are missing something... lots of detail and inky blacks due to the fact you use the wrong picture presets. Your picture will always have an unnatural blue hue when using 'normal', as well as over saturated colours.
Not only is it unnatural but, it is also relevant to the misleading claim you made earlier in this thread regarding image retention, suggesting "screen burn is a common as rocking horse droppings".
If anyone is going to experience image retention, it will be someone that insists on using over saturated colours with a backlight way too high on an OLED.
Don't take my word for it, please read through the four year old thread on the matter here - https://www.avforums.com/threads/oled-screen-burn-permanent-image-retention.2056624/
On a C9 for SDR content you should be using either 'isf Expert Bright Room' and/or 'isf Expert Dark Room'. These presets give you almost perfect colour accuracy out of the box.
For HDR you should be using the 'Cinema' preset with all of the motion processing disabled.
And something else to just double check, and I mention this purely because you regularly mention Apple TV and DV in the same sentence, under the video and audio settings on Apple TV the output should be set to either 4K SDR 50Hz or 60Hz. It should not be left on the vanilla setting of 4K Dolby Vision.
Once set correctly to 4K SDR 50Hz, whilst still in the video and audio settings you should scroll down to 'match content' and enable 'match dynamic range' and 'match frame rate' to ensure Apple TV opts for the corrrect output according to content.
None of this has anything to do with the fact you're clearly not seeing the Sky content available in HDR due to the reason you're not seeing the notification in the top right hand corner.
So, as of yet, it doesn't sound like youv'e seen the HDR Sky has to offer at all.
Please, please do not reply to this post @Piesarus . None of the information here is opinion, it is fact and will help you get the best out of your TV, and anyone else for that matter with a C9 or Apple TV 4K.
