Re: Sky HDR
@Duffy502 bearing in mind the sky box only displays hlg and Netflix doesn't show in HLG only hdr10 and Dolby vision then something your end doesn't seem right

That's an issue with your TV incorrectly flagging.
1. Netflix doesn't support HLG HDR
2. The flag in the top left of the Netflix screen clearly denotes 'Ultra HD 4K' - this is SDR
3. The Sky Q box does not support HDR10 at this moment - which is what's needed for Netflix content.

Re: Sky HDR
Rozel/Rhonny
I have the "toggle" issue when watching Youtube HLG content from my Roku plugged
into my KS7000 via One Connect but not when watching the same content via KS700's
internal app. Also have to "toggle" when watching BBC iPlayer HLG test loop. I don't know
if this helps. (No HLG on my V1 Sky box of course!)

Re: Sky HDR
Maybe after the pandemic they will invest in cloud telephony so their agents can work from home and we get a decent service?

Re: Sky HDR
i notice from the link on here that there is more types of boxes that dont work , than boxes that do! ...so we need clarification from sky what process they intend to use to make sure there customers who want HDR can get it at no cost to them. customers should not suffer or be out of pocket becuase they happen to have an incompatible box, after all the box is only rented bythe customer. some customers may not even be interested in HDR so not everyone will want it. just create a simple form that can be filled in online...i think HDR will become more inportant when the likes of football, sport in general or the olympics will appear in HDR.
if Sky decide that if you want a new box you will be charged this would be a terrible decision a slap in the face to early adopters....people will end up purposely breaking there boxes for replacement or leave sky altogether. so in the long run, they will still lose loads of money. sky need to be fair with their long standing customers for a change. in fact there should already be a process in place and advertised...

Re: Sky HDR
Thanks for the technical input you have given along with others on this pretty confusing issue. Although I have seen the impressive upgrade in picture quality it delivers.
However it does not surprise me that people are confused as it does take a bit of searching to find out if you can or can't get this HLG HDR enhacement to your Sky Q service. To add to the confusion at the moment the Sky Q box does not indicate if the programme you want is in HLG HDR, as the smart TVs native apps do. You only find out if your TV tells you. I can only presume this will be added in future software updates once things have settled down.
This issue is not helped in the case of some Samsung QLED TVs, which just handle the HLG input and sort it out behind the scenes. If you want to know you have to manually check the source input information as it does not flash up any input information automatically . Even then it seems it does not necessarily indicate HLG only HDR .
Am I also correct in assuming that the first 2TB boxes ( Sky Q Silver) known as V1 here are not capable of handling HLG although they are UHD enabled and therefore the launch of HDR is somewhat academic for customers with this box?. My old 2TB was replaced after its harddrive failed so I had none of the frustration that others are having at the moment.
I also wonder if people are seeking help from the experienced members like your self if they give the information on their set up as it saves having to ask

Re: Sky HDR
@Val+Dawson thanks. Do you route your Roku's HDMI output through a receiver like me? @Rhonny says when he connects direct to the TV (using the "One Connect" box, I believe) he doesn't suffer from this need to "toggle" channels and he's got a "KS" Samsung too.

Re: Sky HDR
@CybrHwk wrote:That's true but HDR is only a piece of metadata that either gets sent at the beginning of the content or for every frame to switch the TVs mode. It should have been available in one format or another at the launch of Sky Q not years later. UHD and HDR come as a package
Sky need to employ software engineers who aren't completely useless, supporting only a single format is ridiculous in itself. By all means use HLG for live sport etc, but why not support Dolby Vision and HDR10 for other content? They already pay a license for Dolby Atmos
As has been mentioned earlier in the thread, an HDR capable chipset didn't become widely available until around the middle of 2016 after Sky Q launched so couldn't be made available at launch and the broadcasting spec for UHD/HDR wasn't ratified until November 2016.
There wouldn't be any point supporting Dolby Vision because it isn't part of the broadcasting spec and the licence fee for Dolby Vision is considerably more than that for Dolby audio formats. On top of that, I'm not sure if it's still a thing with Dolby since the release of firmware based version of DV a couple of years ago, but any device that is going to use DV had to be certified by Dolby Labs first.
There might be HDR10 support later on to support HDR with Netflix and Disney+, because streaming services don't have to use HLG, unless there is some way of converting HDR10 to HLG on the fly. Best keep an eye on what happens in Italy because Sky Italia is bound to have Netflix in HDR before anywhere else.
