Re: Sky HDR
Watching Gangs Of Lemur Island. It does actually say in the top of the screen on my tv menu that it is HDR. Best picture setting is on vivid.
TV is a Sony 55FX8796.

Re: Sky HDR
@gems+151, correct about the HLG, I suppose this is Sky's version of HDR which is what they are intending to roll out

This surprised me - definately seeing HDR in my TV's "info" screen and the Backlight up to 20 correctly. Again is anyone experiencing this or give an explanation please?
But congrats to Sky for coming good at last and let's see what Sporting goodies they come up with and Films, in the near future.
Re Point 1: Yes the PQ is excellent, cannot fault it.
Re: Point 2: The hdr capable flag is showing false for everyone i have spoken to, that is not anything to worry about. Often those flags are not correct and may be fixed for clarity in a lter software update.

Re: Sky HDR
The 2016 Samsung TV's did not come with HLG HDR just HDR 10
The initial HLG update only worked on inbuilt apps such as Youtube and not any item plugged in via HDMI
After much work on other forums Samsung issued a further update which HLG then worked on the HDMI input.
On a KS Tv for example you need version 1239 or above to get HDMI. The current version is 1242.
Ensure your TV's software is up to date

Re: Sky HDR
Feels patronising to say any of this when you're a Samsung forum member too, but when HDR kicks in on a KS series TV, like I've got, it hits max backlight immediately. You shouldn't need to do any toggling whatsoever. It's an automatic thing. And you can then make any picture adjustments to HDR so next time it will kick in looking the same (don't reduce the backlight). Make sure you haven't got HDR+ turned on for any reason in your picture settings as this is just an HDR faker function for non-HDR content.
Not sure what toggling you're needing to do. Certainly not changing inputs.

Re: Sky HDR
@planearm your TV is only 700nits which is pretty low for an led TV which is why vivid might look better ie brighter but less accurate

Re: Sky HDR
@Gateford+Owls Thanks but I'm more than fully aware of what you have said - I was one of the chaps pushing Samsung to release a firmware update to allow HDR-HLG to be experienced via HDMI.

@Super+Anthony wrote:@lettice Have searched for Pridelands and only comes to in HD. Found wilderness reborn though
Yeh search is a bit picky with that one, Voice has trouble with Pridelands for me, keeps thinking its a star wars film or something, hilarious. Manual search does it better.
You have found it anyway 🙂

@rozel wrote:@best+of+the+best @Rhonny etal
Well last night I was watching a film on Netflix during which I had absolutely no idea that these downloads were available. I've had absolutely no info from Sky by email and haven't seen jott on Sky itself - a low-key launch indeed! Anyways woke up this morning with the derth of posts, as expected, so crawled downstairs to check if I can receive this long awaited phenomenon on Sky. For the record, my Set is a Samsung 65KS9500 and I have the V3 (Titan) 2TB box.
- Great news (no suprise really) I can receive Sky's UHD HDR-HLG - WooHoo! (sry @Rhonny, forgive me as I know you'll be going through some pain right now)
- Watched a bit of Gangs of Lemur - superb in every way.
- Ok some issues in that I still have to toggle the inputs to see the correct PQ otherwise a. on the HDR-HLG stream the colours are washed out and b. on non HDR-HLG programs, once it has already been toggled, the colours are saturated and simply too much (a bit like the Vivid picture setting but x 5). This is probably to do with my TV or setup. I experience this with my Roku Streaming Stick+ and Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K. Does anyone else suffer from this? It isn't a biggy but I'm now going to add an "input toggle" routine in my relevant Harmony Activities to at least sort the manual setting pain lol.
- I did the HDR false/True thing on my Desktop PC - Q Box is connected on my Ethernet Network but for some reason, whilst playing Gangs of Lemur (and correctly displaying HDR-HLG) it shows "False". This surprised me - definately seeing HDR in my TV's "info" screen and the Backlight up to 20 correctly. Again is anyone experiencing this or can give an explanation for it please?
- OK low key launch, fine by me but without knowing the Titles as in my case, how does one know what to "Search" for? Hats Off to the member who reported the On-Demand Downloads (I've downloaded 2 so far and a third is in the lengthy "Queue". Surely there must be some way that is currently over my head?
But congrats to Sky for coming good at last and let's see what Sporting goodies they come up with and Films, in the near future.
Regarding the washed out colours - this is because HLG needs a wide colour gamut to work properly.
If the colours are washed out, you're viewing the content in HDR with an SDR colour profile. If you're able to check, you need to ensure HLG uses profiles BT.2020/2100.

Sky are using the ratified standard HLG version of HDR for a couple of reasons - it's specifically designed to have minimal lag on live content, so ideal for Sky's broadcast UHD content and a single file can provide both SDR and HDR output, whereas all other formats would require them to have multiple versions available for download.
It's no surprise they're using it here, given that it's been used on Sky Italia for over a year and they have virtually the same hardware (v2/v3 boxes) as the UK and all Q boxes in all countries run the same base software.

Re: Sky HDR
I've just tested mines now. Just to make it easier for people with Samsung QLED's, picture comes on and seems darker than usual, go into the picture settings and you will see the HDR icon on it, change to dinamic for full colour brighness and I do say it defiently makes a big difference compared to watching it in just UHD.
I also have a Philips Hue Sync Box and this works pefectly with it. Lets just hope we keep getting content support for it

Re: Sky HDR
Thanks @Rhonny I most certainly wasn't trying to be patronising, I'm just aware that you have a non-compatible Q Box. Sincere apologies if you took my post the wrong way. Ever since the World Cup with the BBC's Trial broadcasts my system (my devices, including the Sky Q Box) are plugged in to my Yamaha Receiver, an RX-A1070), I have had to change inputs either on my Receiver or TV - x to y and back to x (where x = the correct input). This kicks in the HDR-HLG correctly and, if I'm staying on the same Device but watching a non HDR-HLG channel, I must do the same again to see the correct PQ. The main man @tarbat was instrumental in advising me to do this - if others having the same TV don't have to do this, then I must conclude it has something to do with the routing via my Receiver. I did think this applied to all Samsung KS owners but it sounds as if you don't suffer from this "switching" glitch?
