Re: Sky HDR

For info the LG TV "blank screen" issue with the SkyQ V2 boxes is still an issue, seems to happen less if you turn off the TV first before the box, but still ludricious that it hasnt been fixed yet.

Re: Sky HDR

I was going to suggest  BBC I-player to check if your TV handles HLG, but it looks like they no longer have the UHD test clips.

Re: Sky HDR

@ianmerseyside If you go on you tube, you can see some good videos

Also, with regards some comments earlier, can we all be adults in this forum and help one another, rather than the childish bickering.

Re: Sky HDR

They dropped the HLG test loop early in the Covid19 saga.

It's supported across the board by the major players now, with many older models getting with firmware updates. If somebody has a Samsung, Sony or LG then there's a very good chance they're good to go.

The thing with HLG, much like the baseline HDR10 format, is that it's free to implement and use, unlike Dolby Vision which requires a licence fee.

What's the air like up there on on your pretentious high horse @rozel

Quite frankly those who don't already know the requirements for HDR, probably couldn't care less about it.

Re: Sky HDR

@Super+Anthony   Not sure if the youtube clips would trigger the HLG flag like the I-player does/did.

I tried them when I first got my Samsung q90 and they were amazing

So what's the big deal @Roger+Peters ? and I'm directing this to both @Roger+Peters  and @Rhonny and others.

This is a Community Forum - here to help members who are raising questions in an inquisitive way. I've been really fed up with some so called "Senior Members" answering posts in a patronising and almost rude manner.  There are others (you will know who I'm referring to).  I've asked before that a set of rules or technical requirements to receive Sky's HDR-HLG is posted and directed to at the top of the Forums - there are plenty of Sky Employees right now reading, so why don't they stop the kind of comment I'm mentioning and help post this list?  It would help most people who are not that familiar with HDR.  That said (tongue in cheek) it would lower the post counts so this may not appeal to the majority of these members who bleet on and on and not provide the help that's needed., not just on these HDR threads but on every thread in the Sky Community.  Is it any wonder that This Community is getting negative press?  I have threatened to leave the Community before but to be honest I do glean good information from time to time after sifting through piles of "cr*p posts" of the type I'm talking about..

Honestly - for example, @Rhonny says in his Bio he's a technical nerd - ok, so time to give some help back in the style and politeness that almost every other Technical Forum out there maintains as I'm sure he asks questions in other forums to gain knowledge.  Don't get me wrong @Rhonny  you do provide help from time to time but on the subject of HDR your are a complete PITA to be honest.

@rozel interesting post. I agree with you that the forums are here predominantly to help members having problems or discuss aspects of Sky.

I agree it doesn't help when other forum users answer posts unhelpfully or only want to leave negative comments or make snide comments about other(I'm not meaning you by the way) there are many on this thread that have done that already and really isn't needed as you say it just makes members stay away from the forums.

The first rule of the forum is actually be nice to everyone, if only that happened 😃😃

The Sky employees that are helping out here are mainly installers and customer agents so will probably not have been given any technical requirements of what's needed to receive HDR HLG

Basically from what I know you will need a Q box capable of UHD and can handle HDR  HLG you will also need a UHD TV that can receive HDR HLG guessing you already know that and wanted more in-depth technical details which I'm not sure you will get

I try to treat anyone I reply to with respect sometimes I maybe try and break things down too much so come across condescending but that's because I have no idea if how much technical knowledge the person I am trying to help has.

Re: Sky HDR

My Panasonic 2015 version is getting an update on 26th, coincidence? Could be just a few minor tweaks, but this is the first major update since I've had the tv. My TV doesn't have HDR capability, I'm quite happy with 4K, but it would be nice to watch Disney+ on the TV app in 4K. We will see next week.

Panasonic 50cx700 sky q 2tb, keep the 3d films, I am still watching those

Re: Sky HDR

Some of the older Samsung TV's circa 2016/2017 (with the Titzen OS IIRC) can not view the BBC's Trial UHD HDR-HLG broadcasts using the native BBC iplayer or for that matter Netflix or Amazon Prime.  This is still the same now but after significant lobbying on the Samsung KS forums Samsung released firmware which allowed HDR-HLG broadcasts to be viewed via HDMI plugged in devices.  This was after the Italians started streaming their Sky F1 channel in HDR-HLG and around the time that BBC started their trials.  Shame they've stopped these but I believe it's because as has already been mentioned, the type of HLG which gives the best results is "Dynamic" as it adjusts as the broadcasts take place.  Many TV's and Devices can't react to it and the result is that it doesn't look well at all.  An example of this was the Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K, it was an "Approved" device on the BBC's website up to when the 7th episode of the  1 Planet 7 Worlds was broadcast last December.  This device failed as they started experimenting with this dynamic HDR and was taken off the list.  If this wasn't the reason, then I'm sure someone will correct me.  Hope this helps some Samsung owners.

Re: Sky HDR

I understand that some Sky Q boxes won't do HDR, but I thought they all did UHD.  Wasn't that the whole point of Sky Q?

@Roger+Peters

Come on there's no real need for that kind of response.

@ianmerseysideUntil recently when the 1TB UHD box was brought out the 1TB box did not display 4K UHD

Mini boxes have never displayed 4K.
