Re: Sky HDR
To add to @Chrisee 's accurate comments, Sky Q in Italy (which uses a virtually identical box to the v2) has been HDR for over a year.

Re: Sky HDR
Nor do they need to. They've already said their HDR plans won't be revealed until at least late 2020. There is no further update to expect, and so speculation will not be a worthwhile exercise.

Re: Sky HDR
@Rhonny, so fair to say that as Sky stayed they were developing/rolling out HDR in 2016 but that's now likely to be 2021... so only 5 years. They were never in a position to deliver it.

Re: Sky HDR
@EndTVLicenceTax The latest specs I could find for the 1TB UHD box makes no reference to HDMI 1.4 only HDMI 2.0

Sky never said it would be out in 2016 (the year Q launched) . First officially mentioned date was late 2018, but priorities changed after the Comcast takeover.
There have been test transmissions of HDR recently (only viewable by Sky), so it's clear they're definitely still working on it.

Re: Sky HDR
My understanding is some of the current Sky Q boxes (not mini's) are not capable of HDR. So untill the new generation of Sky Q boxes become available, why not set up an app on TV's like the Now tv app, calling it Now tv UHD, just for Sky Q customers to log in, so we can watch, say movies in UHD HDR, like all the other streaming companies do! This must be an easy fix for Sky to do, as it seems like they are now saying it won't be until next year that we might see HDR on the Sky Q platform.

Re: Sky HDR
And the lack of HDR is why I am cancelling. It is a game changer for me and ridiculous that every other TV platform bar Freeview can provide it except Sky.

BT TV doesn't support HDR either. With that platform, you have the choice of using the apps to stream in HDR or have recording functionality with the box, but no HDR support.
Freesat has no HDR content of it's own, just via the same apps any HDR capable TV already has.
I don't believe TalkTalk TV supports it either.
So the only other TV platform which does support it is Virgin.

Re: Sky HDR
If you'd rather have HDR on a very limited amount of content than access to Sky Sports, Sky Cinema, Sky Originals, Sky Atlantic, Sky One, Sky Witness and Sky Comedy, then that sounds like an excellent decision.

Re: Sky HDR
Hi @CT71 HDR is just a fad like 3D. On a quality TV it just makes everything unnaturally bright. Comparing with or without HDR it soon got turned off. I suppose it may make value cheap TVs better (duck for cover 🙈).

Re: Sky HDR
@Anonymous
I'd suggest that's mostly a matter of taste. Anyway, unlike 3D even at its high-point it's pretty difficult to purchase any current model TV above 32" which isn't HDR-capable, so I don't think it's likely to disappear like 3D models did.

Re: Sky HDR
Someone accidentally woke the sleeping HDR beast. If we're really quiet and don't post any more about this until HDR becomes available, we might just be able to escape unscathed.

Re: Sky HDR
Between Sky, Netflix and Prime, I'm more than happy with the content currently available. Although watching Star Wars the rise of skywalker on disc compared to watching it on sky is like chalk and cheese. World of difference. Any movie that I really really want I will still get the disc. Recently got The Gentlemen on 4k disc and it's a fantastic movie in every respect.
