SKY soundbox

I just bought a second hand Sky soundbox and I have to say the sound quality is superb, it has been solidly built.

I've got hdmi to soundbox from sky q - soundbox to my LG tv and Optical from TV, which gives my dolby digital from apps and xbox series x. Again is sounds brilliant, dynamic with decent base and it gets loud! And what suprised me is that the quality is just as good the louder you get.

I have lost the picture on a couple of occasions but I have solved the issue....... well for me. When I turn off the TV, I then put sky Q into standby, but I don't bother touching the soundbox, as it goes into standby anyway on its own.

I find if you turn off soundbox first it can sometimes confuse the link between itself and Sky Q. So I would put it into standby after the TV and Sky Q. I've not had any issues since I follow this procedure.

I have my tv settings with simplelink on and tv internal sound. If I want optical I just manually change it on tv, which takes a couple of clicks and then change on soundbox. Following this process it all works fine for me.

For the sound quality it gives me it really uplifts my viewing experience. Movies sound excellent, as does my xbox and music via Bluetooth.

Just a quick question are Sky going to still support the soundbox with any further firmware updates, as I know it's been discontinued?

Hi @ChrisyJohna

Glad to hear you are enjoying the soundbox

The last firmware update was approx 2018 - and so the chance of future updates are in my opinion- virtually zero

I've used mine for 3/4 years now with no issues. Do post back if you are stuck with anything technical and I'll try to offer an opinion.

@mike+simmonds

Thanks for your response.

Just a quick question, is there any way of checking if the audio source connected is dolby digital plus ?

The reason I ask is that Sky Q does not tell you if output is DD or DD+ and the soundbox has no display.

Its not a deal breaker, but would be interesting to see if there was any difference in the sound.

Thanks

Morning @ChrisyJohna

There isn't a visual indicator to tell you the source of audio being inputted in to the box

Do you have Netflix ? I'm not in front of my box to check but I think Netflix (certainly they used to ) has a DD+ marker on some output - so if you have your Soundbox attached to your main Sky Q box - you could try some Netflix output to test if you can detect a better output

My thoughts are that you would need some extraordinarily good ears to detect a difference from a single box speaker - but if the mix is good there might be something there that you just "prefer"

Have you seen this photo that was around a while ago ? I found the layout interesting

if @TimmyBGood is around he has good knowledge of the soundbox and may be able to offer some thoughts

I also have this link about DD+ which I found interesting

Re: SKY soundbox

@mike+simmonds

Thanks for responding,

I don't have Netflix, but I do have Disney + and Amazon Prime. They both sound great, but some of the content in Prime gives no sound if I set Sky Q to dolby digital plus, so I set it as dolby digital.

If I set my xbox series X to DTS it does play on the soundbox through optical from my TV, as I use HDMI pass though and my TV supports DTS. I play my bluray movies through my Xbox

😊
