Re: SKY F1 Offer 2021?

Hopefully one day it will all be back on channel 4 for free to watch..

sports have only been sold out to pay to view due to dodgy money investors greed and creating a business out of a business at the expense to all of us!
Obviously to enhance our viewing pleasure and experience!!

It's highly unlikely to be back on C4 in 2025 (when the current deal with Sky ends) - it'll either be on a subscription sport channel or streaming via F1TV. Most likely both.

That wouldn't give you access to live coverage though. For that you need the PRO subscription at £5.99 per month. Plus the cost of a VPN.  But still a lot cheaper than Sky, and viewable on a TV using an Apple TV box.

£5.99 for F1 TV Pro! That sounds much more like the price that Sky should charge. Why are Sky ripping us off with a charge of £18! Will be looking into how I get this service instead

Re: SKY F1 Offer 2021?

use a vpn (e.g. NordVPN) to sign up and watch. The only problem is that it is live, cant see how you can record it to watch later.

Just a guess, but perhaps because F1 is a rapacious global money-making machine which happens to also involve a few motor car races?

There's an in-depth analysis of the impact of the £1 billion Sky deal and possible repercussions when it comes to an end here:

Sky have set the price and you can negotiate from there - indeed, I pay less than this for the complete Sky Sports...  Sometimes, more is less.

Ultimately, if you consider it a rip off then don't pay it.

I am just another Sky customer and my views are my own even if you don't like the answers

@tarbat F1TV @£19:99 gives me access to live coverage.

I've installed the F1TV app on my 4K Fire tv Stick connected to my 43inch tv

That's odd - UK subscriptions don't include live content.

No live video in a legitimate UK-located F1 TV account though: Sky didn't pay a billion pounds to permit that...

The whole point of Sky shelling out to secure exclusive coverage was that streaming live video through F1TV is not made available by the Formula One Group as an option to UK IP addresses (particularly at a price point that would hugely undercut a Sky Television F1 subscription) and so the UK gets 'F1 TV Access', not 'F1 TV Pro'.  This is also the case in all other territories where there's an 'exclusive broadcast partner' with a Liberty Media contract.

Formula 1 streaming service F1 TV Pro  – now available in over 85 territories and six languages – boasts live coverage of races, along with full replays as soon as the race ends, on-board driver cameras, a pitlane feed, data channels including live timing and driver tracker maps, plus "full unedited team radio", for all your sweary racing driver needs. You can also watch Formula 2, Formula 3 and Porsche Supercup coverage.

A cheaper tier without live coverage, F1 TV Access, is available in a further 33 countries. This has live timing and audio commentary, exclusive documentaries and shorts, plus over 650 archive grands prix or highlights with a library going back to the 1980s.

Because Sky has exclusive live rights to the sport in the UK, F1 TV Pro isn't yet available in the UK, and it's highly unlikely that this will change unless the rights are completely renegotiated – Sky's current agreement for live UK coverage runs until 2024.

Just what they describe, imaginatively, as 'live timing' which appears to be a telemetry feed.

Please explain how you've achieved that at only £19.99.

I currently have the same annual "TV Access" subscription, which gives access to replays and highlights, and special documentaries, but definately not live coverage. For live coverage, you need PRO.  And for that you'll need a VPN and a credit card registered to a non-UK address, or pay via Apple TV.

EDIT: This is the PRO subscription that you need to get LIVE coverage of races, etc.

Re: SKY F1 Offer 2021?

if anyone want to know the level of feeling about this topic, then have a look at sky's F1 advert on Facebook (yes I am that old). So far 500 comments and nearly all the ones I see are negative towards sky and their pricing for F1.

Most seem to like the channel 4 show and don't see that £18 is fair for something that will be free to view a few hours after it is live. Even sky few give most of their footage free after a few hours and the specials are nearly all on youtube.

Most of their other sports are exclusive and can't see elsewhere so a bit more understandable. Needs to be a fairer price, but I fully accept this isn't going to happen which is why I won't be watching the sky few channel and will probably leave sky at the end of my contract.

'Fair' for who though?  After Sky chose to pay over £1 billion to secure exclusive rights for a fairly small subset of their viewers it would hardly be 'fair' for non-F1 Sky subscribers to cross-subsidise a lower-cost F1 channel.
