Remote wont connect to new sky+ box

Jist has to buy a new sky+ is box and the remote won't work although 

it works with the tv

 I have tried to reset it using select with i and then 2.  This didn't work.  I have even bought a new remote and this does the same - works with the tv but not the box.

does anyone have any other ideas i can try

Which version (Rev) Sky remote and what kind of Sky box - HD or non HD?

It's an HD box and the remote is version 10

Your Rev10 should control a Sky+HD 'out of the box' with no setting up required. As two remotes don't work, it suggests a fault with your Sky box, not the remotes.

If you haven't already, try turning off the box at the plug for 4 minutes to see if that resolves it. If not, I suspect the box is faulty.

I've tried a reset. The buttons on the box work but the remote still doesn't work

Yep, sounds like a fault with the IR receiver inside the box.
