I've just received a call, purporting to be from BT Openworld, concerning my internet speed. I raised this issue with Sky a couple of weeks ago but this was the first I'd heard from BT (who apparently are responsible for the network) I was unfomfortable providing information and access and so ended the call. Was this likely to be genuine or a scam? The BT WHOLESALE page looked genuine enough but I'm uncomfortable committing to something I'm not sure about.

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out moreTypically Openreach don't contact ISP subscribers even after a complaint about speed has been lodged, so you're certainly right to be suspicious: the scammers know that most people would like 'better' internet and use this to their advantage when perpetrating their criminal activities.
Incidentally although BT Group still own Openreach they are organisationally separate businesses with different branding, so anything which conflates the two is even more dubious, and 'BT Wholesale' is different to both Openreach and BT the telco/ISP.
