Re: Playlist FAQ / Q&A

Thank you for the update, informative, and for the most part makes sense. My only issue is the way it currently integrates with BT Sport. For example UFC is often screened in the early hours of Monday morning, being unable to record it is a real issue. I of course understand rights issues, but it would help if the subscription through Sky to BT sport also included access or integration to the BT Sport App which it. Urgently does  not.

What content can be added to Playlist?

Can I add content I can’t play back, and if so why? (e.g. Frasier on Channel 4)

Everything you add is available to play back, but in a very small number of cases, it’s only possible to play while it’s airing. On the occasions this does happen, it’s when Sky or one of our channel partners do not have the rights to record the programme and it’s not available on demand or in an app after broadcast.

So, "Murder, She Wrote" on 5USA has been one of those very small cases of shows like Frasier. Added to the Playlist a few days ago, which showed some 'On This Week' episodes, but as the days went by, none of these ever moved to 'Available Now'.

HOWEVER - I checked during the live broadcast this morning, and found I could 'Watch From Start'. Now, over an hour after the episode has finished, I can go back and this mornings episode is listed in my 'Available Now' - so is available to watch at leisure as expected/hoped.

So whats happened -  presumably it wasn't available because "Sky or channel partners do not have the rights to record the programme and it’s not available on demand or in an app after broadcast" ?

Has that changed overnight, and I should expect future episodes to automatically be available to watch?

OR - is there something significant about me watching just a 5 second snippet of the show, which over-powers the 'rights to record or on-demand availability' - and tomorrow mornings episode will not be available to watch (after its finished), unless I watch a small bit of it live? 🤔

@John4042

Playlist is your personalised list of everything you want to watch, created by you.

It's not though John because loads of stuff I add and then try to watch later is not there! We have regressed to pre VCR days!

On your point about linking to apps you don't subscribe to, it's inaccurate. As the video on YouTube shows with air crash. The episode was available through Nat geo but glass was pointing to Disney plus on the front page.

Re: Playlist FAQ / Q&A

If I playlist F1 in UHD will it be available to stream later, or only in HD?

Only way to try, is to go to the tvguide and playlist the HD and also the UHD.
For the HD assume going to the tv guide and playlist it on  the Sky Sports f1 hd channel

For the UHD, go to the tv guide and playlist it on the the uhd channel, that I think is in the 1000s. Or playlisting it from a search for the UHD content using the menus or voice.

Would be good if you could try as it would be intersting for others to know how it works.
Recording both the HD and UHD is something that many on Sky do.

Re: Playlist FAQ / Q&A

Sky Glass is ruined by the reliance on ITV Hub and others.

Decision to not cloud record all programmes in our playlist is a complete disaster for user experience.   You should keep all the playlist recordings in cloud recordings and only switch to apps if there is no recording available.

We could record itv, channel4 and bbc in sky q and sky+ so why not bite the bullet and allow customers to do the same in cloud storage... Just for continuity and user experience.

Re: Playlist FAQ / Q&A

@tarbat  yes, you can go hunting to find the episode. But doesn't that defeat the object somewhat? You should just have to press WATCH as presented to you , rather than go hunting for the episode.

Your sig. shows you as being a Q subscriber not a Glass subscriber so perhaps you don't fully understand the difficulty non-techies in the family have navigating this non-intuitive playlist.

It's not a Q replacement, it's an entirely separate product. It was originally touted as a service for those who can't have a satellite dish but the lines have become blurred and people now think it's the natural successor to Sky's satellite service.

It will inevitably replace Sky Q in the coming years - still plenty of life in the satellite business yet though - but in its current form, quite why any happy Sky Q customer would willingly downgrade to a sub-standard service by comparison is a mystery to me. Perhaps the aggressive marketing by Sky, and their less than forthcoming approach to the full picture recording service limitation played a part.

soory missed off user.

maybe that's it,  sky may not be able legally to keep other providers content in the cloud, probably need to pay licence fees.  Yes they can air it etc but I wonder if there is legal stuff about storing it.,  As we would normally record for private use only, sky have no access to what you have recorded

I totally agree about the difficulty in finding individual episodes in a series.  Sky have gone for the concept of people wanting to watch a whole series rather than pick and choose individual episodes.

Also it would be better if you could exclude individual content providers like Disney+ from the Play List just like you can on Apple TV.

Re: Playlist FAQ / Q&A

@d2h Logically you're right - its not a Q replacement - if you've got Q, stick with Q, get a new TV if you need one.

--BUT--

Sky have only allowed VIP members of 8Years+ to order so far. I.e. people who already have functional Q setups typically. And they remove your Q subscription - so in effect the only market they have is people who were happily with Q.
