Re: Pixelation on recordings mini box

Thanks @Anonymous

The Netflix issue is a strange one!  The minis now all play the episodes fine but my main box now has the pixelation when the screen transitions from the black screens to camera footage!?!

I've rebooted router, Sky Q box and reset my apps but still does it!

At the moment Sky is like a girlfriend that you keep around because she makes a good sandwich but the things that annoy you eventually grind you down and you just have to give up on it! 😂

Re: Pixelation on recordings mini box

Hi

I factory defaulted my mini box and rebooted main box. Perhaps not a good thing to do as took md ages to get everything back. No apps at all except amazon prime and no BBC iPlayer. After lots of power offs etc got everything back after lots of messing about.
Just a thing that might help when you are in Netflix if you go to the left hand side menu and scroll down to help there is a network status and speed test. Mine is always at least 30 mb.

Re: Pixelation on recordings mini box

@Skycambs  Thanks for the tip - I checked that but it never completes for some reason!

It could be due to the Raspberry Pi I have controling DHCP due to issues with the Sky Router!

@Skycambs

I'm curious to know what your pi dose.

Dose the modem not do dhcp?

Re: Pixelation on recordings mini box

@Anonymous  I think you mean me buddy!

Since I upgraded to the new SR204 ultra fast router, I had no end of problems with devices losing connection and then ending up with random IP Addresses.  This meant they could not access the internet.

Likewise, rebooting the router takes ages for all of the devices to reconnect.

There is a known issue with the DHCP server in the SR203/204 routers where it simply stops handing out addresses if you go over a certain number of devices. (there are threads in here about it).

As with everything else - Sky are struggling to resolve this issue too!

It was getting so frustraiting that I had to find an alterative DHCP solution and the Raspbery Pi has some software called Pi-hole that can act as a DHCP Server.

Sinice I put that in place my connections have been rock solid.

Re: Pixelation on recordings mini box

You could always exclude  some ip addresses from  dhcp and disable dhcp on boxes and manually setup up static ip addresses.

Why won't your router do dhcp.

@Anthonyh1976

Sorry it was you lol.

Oh right I see interesting i have one myself a pi that is but was into it when it first come out. I have the latest router the one with voip i also have ultra fast. Would this be an example where your devices would not auto connect? Say if you left the home etc?

I have to say I'm not liking the 5ghz I only have to walk 2 feet and it drops to 2.4. But always been like that.

Re: Pixelation on recordings mini box

Sorry you posted my answer while I was posting.
Raspberry pi  great little device's song bought me one when I retired to keep my brain active. Spend ages trying to program in C and Python.

Re: Pixelation on recordings mini box

@Anonymous  you have the same router as me then.

Yes auto connecting is one of the issues being reported.

My problem is that I am working from home and the internet would just randomly drop.  When  I checked my IP address it had defaulted to local address which is what happens when a device cannot see a dhcp server.

Once the DHCP server trips itself over everything (except for IP6) disconnects which is a pain because I have smart plugs, bulbs, Ring cameras etc!  40 devices in total.

Right thats interesting as I to did notice this but thought nothing of it but thought it was the 5ghz dropping but on looking a few devices lost connection completely i don't have many approx 16 devices like yourself smart home really lol

Re: Pixelation on recordings mini box

Guys,

Can we keep this thread about the minibox pixelation please.

Homegrown Pi solutions to network issues won't necessarily help our cause with the Sky test team however much fun it appears to be.

Re: Pixelation on recordings mini box

Its topics of common interests.? And relates to help and support?

Re: Pixelation on recordings mini box

I don't disagree.  But this thread is for minibox pixelation.  The more focus on one topic per thread the more likely the Sky Team will take the issue seriously.

I believe most of us reporting the pixelation issue have a bog standard Sky installation - meaning it's a Sky issue and not a third party issue.

Feel free to open another thread and reference it if you feel your issue is related.
