New films and programs desperately needed

Pull your socks up Sky. Your choice of programs and films are rapidly dwindling and the Christmas viewing was extremely poor. The same films played time and time again. Would you like to borrow some of my DVD's as I seem to have a larger selection. I will be rethinking my opinions when my contract is up

Re: New films and programs desperately needed

Sky will never change their ways due to the amount of money they receive from 'valued customers'.

They still have the silent films and subtitled films to exploit, documentaries, mockumentaries etc as well.

Then dont forget the 'classic entertainment' shows and anything else they can get their grubby, greedy hands on.

Pay a small fortune for endless repeats of 'classic sports' you ignored or new sports you dont care about.

Sky asked for ideas via 'Loungelab' then ignored all the responses and closed the forum down.

They choose those who they want to 'represent' the customers, refuse to answer any questions on the content they broadcast.

And then there is 'Sky VIP', oh dear the loyalty program that rewards who only knows.

Re: New films and programs desperately needed

Yep £11 per month for the same old films. Good old SKY, who in HDTV's third decade, still can't still offer HD for SkyGo.....

Oh and 18th month contract?? 😂

Good to see nothing has changed with the forums on Sky, dare to have an opinion and the chosen ones will reply.

Come on Sky get one of your 'executives' to answer the simple question why do you show endless repeats of films and programmes that are so old Moses remembers them and charge a fortune to watch them ?

@Metalsoul99 you misunderstand the way this forum works if you seriously expect answers from Sky's management as it is primarily customer to customer as is explained here.

One of the explanations of the reason for the lack of new programming is the world is been in a pandemic for the last 12 months which has made programme making difficult if not impossible and has closed cinemas which has meant the release of major movies has been delayed. If you do a search you will see many major projects were hit in the first half on 2020 and again from November. Sky can only buy what is for sale.

Re: New films and programs desperately needed

The forum is run by Sky supposedly for the benefit of its customers yet they still have control of what can be posted.

The 'Oracles' are chosen by Sky not the customers, given preferential treatment for ensuring that all obey the gospel according to Sky.

The real reason why programming is dreadful is simple, Sky have massively overpaid for sport coverage.

The so called new programming Sky has either commissioned or bought before the pandemic are unbelievably dreadful.

Long before the pandemic struck Sky were showing repeat after repeat, they wont stop due to the money it generates.

And finally with all the money they have saved by broadcasting nothing new how come the cost to its customers keeps increasing ?

@Metalsoul99 Sky staff do moderate the forum and there are rules but customers are free to express opinions within those limits. Sky do select some forum users to act as Oracles and we do have some super user permissions to help the forum function but we are customers like you and are free to express out own opinions where we want. Sorry but you can't object to me posting an alternative view in 'your" thread as I have as much right to do so as you or any other forum member.

I agree with you that currently there is a shortage of good new programming but unlike you I think that the main cause is the pandemic which is affecting the whole industry not just Sky. if you look at the terrestrial channels schedules there are major holes similarly subscription services like Netflix have a much reduced release schedule and it is likely to be at 12 to 18 months until things return to normal.

Sky buy sports rights because that is what a very large number of their customers want, clearly not including you, but there is no pressure on you to pay for the Sports channels which, like Cinema, are sold as an add-on. You are free to take your business elsewhere and you cannot complain there is a lack of choice these days.

Re: New films and programs desperately needed

I am very new to this forum stuff. The reason I used it was I couldn't find another way to contact Sky about my views. Personally I don't use any sport channels but I like good dramas and films. I understand due to the pandemic there is limited new material but surely there are vast amounts of old stuff. We just keep getting the same old stuff repeatedly. I also have Netflix as part of my package and that has been poor as well. I do like Sky as an overall provider and the Sky Q is great. I just wish I had some good stuff to store in it

Have you looked at BBC schedules, everywhere is poor as so few new programmes are being made. In addition there is a general move away from linear broadcasting. For myself in order to have what I would like to watch I subscribe to Apple TV, Acorn TV, Britbox, Netflix, Prime Video and from time to time Starzplay. I use Sky less and less to be honest but when new stuff like Discovery of Witches comes along then I watch it all nightly. Oh and I forgot Disney +

They should cut the price then, as they won't have new main stream films and blockbusters for the near future. It's not if Sky has sneakily put prices up here and there else where......

Even so I won't hold my breath for a Sky 'Cinema' price reduction..... 🙄

Hmmmm I think I may contact Ofcom et all, as they are literally miselling the concept of Sky Cinema for the near future. Wish me luck. 🙂

Trading Standards or the ASA, possibly: it's not an Ofcom issue.

More and more people are using Sky, and pay-TV as a whole, less. It's why the churn is so large and they're all clamouring to sign up third party apps. Without the offer of having things available on the one box, Sky's offer would be severely impacted - more so that it is already.

The current and future market conditions were not designed for a 'traditional' pay TV operator and how they ride the storm will be very interesting to see.

I do pay for Sky - I get everything for £40 per month and I can live with that. I wouldn't have any hesitation in cancelling the lot if they refused to honour that pricing next time out... and they know that from previous times I've cancelled outright.

Regarding the points re Sky Cinema - the problem they have is that the other services that also offer movies-on-demand are making the Sky premium option seem poor value... never more so than a year when new premiere's (the only reason most of us subscribe in the first place) will be very limited indeed. The chances of a price drop are slim to non-existent though.

More importantly, satellite television predates internet access faster than 9,600 bps*: Sky was already 10 years old when V.90** was approved.  Yes, there's some UHD broadcast content and the boxes are (mostly) better, but essentially it's distribution technology and an associated business model from the 1980s, and that's a long time ago now...

* that's 0.001 Mbs, for those who don't remember the joys of dial-up and think their FTTC is slow.

** a whopping 56 Kbps

Re: New films and programs desperately needed

I have never objected to anyone posting alternative views nor have I implied its 'my thread'.

Forums work extremely well without an elite committee judging every post.

What gives you the right to state I cannot complain about the lack of choice and I am free to take my business elsewhere !

Its obvious the real reason for the lack of new programming is the inability of those concerned to think outside the box and stop making medical and crime dramas.

There is a production line churning out this trash.

Sky send me emails, texts and letters stating how much they miss my cash and would I like a discount on sport and movie package.

Sky would buy the rights to the world snakes and ladders championship call it a sport and set up a channel devoted to it and charge a fortune for it.

They try and con customers by announcing new channels that in reality have just had 'Sky' added to the name, History Channel became Sky History.
