Need guidance on connecting phone to new BB Hub through ethernet switch
Hi, and thanks in advance if you can help. I had a new FTTP Broadband connection installed last week, with a new ONT box and Sky Broadband Router. My house is old and large, so we have ethernet cabling from an ethernet switch in the basement, which is where the ONT and router are located. With our 'old' BT master sockets, we ran telephone extensions through the ethernet network and then put filters on the ethernet ports into which we plugged the telephones. But the new hub doesn't allow us to do this.
Can someone please advise me how to use the VOIP system on the new router through an ethernet switch?

@TSSeren I'm not actually sure what you did on the old system but your phone should just plug into the back of the hub marked UK Phone.

Re: Need guidance on connecting phone to new BB Hub through ethernet switch
Your setup could be in two different ways;
1. ONT > Ethernet Cable > Switch > Ethernet Cable to the main house > Hub > Phone plugged into hub
2. ONT > Ethernet Cable > Hub > Phone cable from hub port to main house > Phone

Hi @GD1
Yes, that's true and it works fine if I do that. However the hub is in my basement and I need to connect extensions through the ethernet switch to various floors in my house. I've tried connecting the old extensions through the ethernet but it's not working.

You cant have multiple individual handsets on the new voip system you'll need to buy a cordless phone set with one main basestation and then 1, 2 ,3 or however many you need extensions that run wireless off the main basestation.

Re: Need guidance on connecting phone to new BB Hub through ethernet switch
@jamesn123 thank you. That will be troublesome as the DECT phones don't work in this house ... walls too thick!
Ideally, I just want to be able to switch off my Sky Talk number altogether, so do you know if that is possible?

@TSSeren Don't beleive there is that option. Just don't use it.

Yeah you can't switch it off. Just don't plug a phone into the sky hub

Re: Need guidance on connecting phone to new BB Hub through ethernet switch
So ... if anyone is interested, I have managed to use the ethernet switch and cabled network in my house to create the phone extension. I purchsed a BT telephone adaptor (phone plug to RJ11) and an RJ11 to ethernet (RJ45) cable. I plugged the adaptor into the new hub and then the cable from the adaptor to the ethernet switch.
Up in the main part of the house I then used my old ethernet to phone adaptor (RJ45 to female phone socket) and plugged the phone into it. I can now answer the phone whenever I like and tell people not to call me on it!
Really, Sky ... life would be much easier if you just offered a 'no talk' broadband package!
