Mini box unable to connect to the activation server
Hi,
Over the last couple of weeks we have been seeing this message regularly on the Mini box -
"Your Sky Q Mini box has not been able to connect to the activation server"
"Do you have active Broadband?"
"You can try this by browsing the internet on a device connected to your wi-fi"
"YES NO"
I think there is an error at the bottom of the page - MR106
There isn't a problem with our internet so we anser YES and then a message appears -
"There may be a temporary issue with the server"
"Please try again later"
The Sky Q box is wired and the Mini box is wifi.
Sky Q box is a version 1 which we have had pretty much since the service was launched and it has been faultless until the last couple of weeks.
Powering off/on Sky Q seems to fix it.
Any help appreciated, thank you.
Sky Q 2Tb

Re: Mini box unable to connect to the activation server
I should also add that we have restarted our router (twice now) and it's still happening.

Re: Mini box unable to connect to the activation server
I've been having the same problem and only over the past couple of weeks, but it happens almost every day. I have no problem with my broadband or my Sky Q box, but have to keep restarting Sky Q so that the mini box will work. It's really annoying - why is this only happening now? Has something been updated in the Sky Q settings to cause this problem?

Re: Mini box unable to connect to the activation server
Same here on mini box "can't connect to activation server" for last couple of weeks have to reboot main sky q every morning it's clearly following the last update have checked both boxes are running same version as usual like all tech bods they roll out updates without proper testing it's so frustrating happens all the time with phone apps etc they may be experts in tech but no common sense to test thoroughly before releasing updates 😡

Re: Mini box unable to connect to the activation server
Just had the same after turning the box off, rebooting it all and standing on my head for 2 minutes - I saw a post about similar so turned them off, checked the main box and it wasn't showing Sly channels - took out viewing card and gave it a wipe and bingo, all working.
Nothing to do with the server, internet or anything else - shame Sky don't suggest that in their on-screen message...🤬

Re: Mini box unable to connect to the activation server
I have 2TB main Sky Q box in bungalow lounge and 2 mini boxes, one in kitchen and one in bedroom.
The one in bedroom 'mostly' switches on ok - although occasionally get 'connection error' and have to follow several ways out of this by reconnecting to either main box or router, via various 'Settings' options as instructed previously - even though internet is fine with constant 53mbps download speed.
However the kitchen mini box EVERY MORNING when first switched on shows menus but not mini picture of live channel - and no sound, so otherwise dead!
I always have to either reconnect via Settings, which sometimes says 'something wrong with your internet connection' even when all other internet devices are working fine and router shows normal lights as working ok.
My other option is to reset via little button at back of mini box - 'Hello' etc boot up.
Why is this happeneing EVERY morning at start up?

Re: Mini box unable to connect to the activation server
I have noticed this activation server notice - broadband is not effected at all on any other device linked to the mini box other than the mini box itself having "access to the router"... however, I switched my O2 mobile (which had internet connection from the "non serving" mini box) to airplane mode and the mini box restarted.. is this an "O2 /Virgin media "bug"?" 🤷♂️🤣🤣🤣. Fabulous conspiracy theory but my thought is that there is some "security" issue token with their own hardware here that SKY needs to fix! - never had any SKY service problems before... real shame!!! definitely won't upgrade to glass until I see a consistent service again!!
