I would just add that I have full fibre to the house and my broadband download speed is between 140-150 mp/s which should be sufficient to run the tv and other devices ( iPad and iPhone etc) without these constant issues.

It would appear analogous to Amazon and Google having access to a 10 Lane highway while Sky was still using a dual carriageway to stream data.
It would be interesting to hear comments from Sky engineers on this diagnosis of the streaming problems with Sky Glass.
'Sky engineers' do not comment in public forums: that would be a disciplinary matter.
Local network stability (LAN/WLAN within the subscription address) combined with the ability (or lack of ability) of the Glass hardware/software to cope with adverse local conditions is almost certainly a far greater factor than any external distribution limitations (which, as noted above, largely no longer exist).

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out more@Palmality the Glass TV doesn't need a particularly fast line in; it needs a stable line, and required the internal network to be rock solid too. Wifi has many issues, Sky's implementation of wifi hardware and/or drivers then sitting alongside the many inherent issues WIFI has, leads to a situation just not good enough in many cases to provide the stable signal that Glass requires, hence Glass, in the main, performs far better when hardwired in a home.

Being honest, our Sky Glass is behaving much better now although still a frame or two out on sync every day, however we had to turn off the voice commands and the other smart functions as these all cause more issues. The PUK's on the other hand are beyond a joke. It can take up to 20 minutes to get any of our PUKS to function properly. I understand the puks work separately to the Glass and the issues with starting up are the time it takes for the puk to talk to Sky, check the subsriber account and verify credentials. It often crashes or locks up during the process. Numerous restarts most days aaaargh !
I can 100% confirm that it is not an issue at our home. Sky Glass 55" (on ethernet) & 4 x Glass Pucks (on WiFi). Our incoming broadband is 900mbps down and about 140 up. Our Wi-Fi delivers approx 500mbps in each room (Linksys), plus we have an Ethernet network with Ethernet available in every room, back to our main switch. We do have 2 x Peloton machines (bike and tread) both streaming hi def programming and our Peloton's never ever experience the numerous issues that Sky glass and PUKS suffer. No sync issues, loss of programming etc etc. how can peloton get it so right and Sky so wrong !

Thanks for that info so would a Ethernet cable from modem to tv be the answer I wonder if that's what you mean by hard wired.

Thanks for the explanation

with the pucks I found if you turn off standby and power saving to off
the pucks are more responsive
and if you know how to add the pucks IP's to your router to Reserve them
I have no problems now
boot up time is about 7 seconds
hope this helps

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out more@Markj72 I always leave networked standby mode on as I don't really want the networking to go to sleep seeing as it can be a tad unreliable. Were you getting issues with this setting on hence disabling it?

Hi
yes when on it would not wake after so many hours
have to power cycle
I definitely recommend reserving puck IP's on router
that will help with start up

Thanks everyone for the advice and explanations. I've now hardwired the tv and although it's early days it seems to be much improved - no glitches yet but we'll see how it goes throughout the evening. Fingers crossed.

So I've managed to get to grips with most of the initial issues but we still have one that persists- when watching regular tv channels BBC, ITV etc, it freezes & loads constantly & I have to change channels & back to get it moving again- anyone else having this trouble?

Had the same problems. Phoned Sky. They told me to reset sound and picture. Been fine ever since

Our TV was delivered in October, whilst there have been a couple of Software updates since and improvements have been made, it's clear 2022 is going to be a trial year whilst stability of the software is fixed in the wild (with us) and contracts with BBC and ITV are fixed to enable the full 'record in cloud' service. Sky have provided a discount to our Sky Glass subscription through 2022 whilst they work on issues. Give them a call, dont take no for an answer. They do discount Glass and it now feels much more of a trial partnership with Sky through 2022 for Glass, rather than being taken for a ride. Glass it's a brilliant concept, very exciting, with a lot more work to do!

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out more@Dave+IT Interesting as it's the first time I've heard of any discount for Glass.
Maybe time to reach out again and see what they can offer as it's far from an acceptable service at present.
