It’s a Wonderful Life.

But not a Wonderful System.
Watching the above on Channel 4 'live' and it suggests I press red to watch from the start. When I do so it tells me to upgrade my package to watch the film!

Re: It’s a Wonderful Life.

Yes, flagged with Sky Cinema.

So what i did.... Push + to add to your playlist.

Then open it from Play now. Worked for me.

Though after it finishes airing on Channel4 you will only find it available via Sky Cinema.

Re: It’s a Wonderful Life.

I tried the + button and am able to watch from start ... but prior to that the option being pushed was SKY Cinema ... I, for one, dont like this kind of push to spend when something is on regular TV. I'm slowly going off the Sky Glass system as there are too many limitations from this to not being able to record items to watch later to the confused menus and how series are stored/presented across the different "players" ... still much prefer the Sky Q system and don't really rate the Sky Glass TV hardware (vision/sound decidedly average ... or worse). After Christmas I think I will explore moving back to Q with Sky.

Re: It’s a Wonderful Life.

I can understand the link to Cinema as if you weren't tuning in when it was live streaming then you would miss it after, plus no adverts.

Watch from start should select the live programme by default, with other options available.

Re: It’s a Wonderful Life.

My issue is I have to watch at the transmission time or buy from Sky Cinema later ... given it is on a public channel I would expect to be able to record/view after transmission ... as you can with SKY Q, Freeview or the player app ... I believe I would be better off with a smart TV and the player app. It might be a permission issue between SKY and the channels ... but that is not my problem tbh

It shouldn't affect the customer but it does immensely.

Re: It’s a Wonderful Life.

Looks intentional to me ... checking the app on Sky Glass the ability to watch such programs is removed but on a PC or smart TV its possible.

@GordonWMcK it is not by design but simply a by-product of not having the ability to locally record which means you have to access a service which has the streaming rights when you want to watch. Channels often buy broadcast rights only which means once that has finished you cannot access it on that channel as they do not hold the rights to stream that material..

For example a film on Film4 maybe only streamed from Amazon Prime which is no gain to Sky. Similar things happen with some programmes on Nat Geo channel where the streams are behind a paywall on Disney+.. if it was simply Sky pushing their premium services they would have sorted those.

I suspect the penny had not totally dropped that the chosen hybrid of cloud recording and back-up apps would cause this issue. The Xmas offer of 2 free Sky Store rentals is partially because Sky Glass customers cannot record the "free" showings of Sky Cinema movies on Sky Max and the other standard channels..

Re: It’s a Wonderful Life.

Thanks for your explanation which helps confirm the issue for me 👍 ... however the fact remains that Sky Q doesn't have this problem and moving to Sky Glass is one step forward and several steps backwards ☹ ... anyhow have a nice Christmas everyone
