How can I get Sky Q to remember my wi-fi password?

We seem to be having regular power cuts lately, perhaps this is going to be feature from now on with the energy crisis.

After power is restored and everything boots up I notice that Sky Q is not connected to the BT Home Hub 6. I have to reset the connection and type in the tedious password again. 

Why cannot the Sky Q box remember the connection and reconnect automatically like every other device in the house?

@Alan1952  Sky does reconnect to your WiFi automatically (most times), it just takes a while to do it

So am I being too impatient after ten minutes then?  How long should it take to reconnect?

When the other members of the household are screaming for the life support system that is Sky Q to be functioning  thenI tend to give up and reset the wi-fi again.

@Alan1952 , you can’t because it’s a bloody useless bit of software controlling the box. All my other Wi-fi connected kit is fine after any router problems except the Sky box.

Yours is a perfectly valid question and it should remember your password. But it’s the same with choosing 4K. Every time you have to choose between 8-bit or 10-bit. It can’t remember your preference because the programmers are second rate.

And 24 button presses to get to the UHD menu option. How crass is that? Nothing has Improved in 5 years. Sky should be ashamed.

And when I post on a topic I receive an email telling me I’ve posted a comment. You really couldn’t make it up.

I cannot say why your Q box is forgetting the password but I can assure you that Q does remember the password.

You could go wired and not have totypethe password.

I tried to go wired as I had problems with thick walls interrupting the wi-fi between main and mini boxes.  I used TP-Link Powerline Extenders and although they worked fine between router and main Sky Q box I still had occasional drop outs to the mini box. This could be down to the wiring in my house to be fair to Sky. The Sky engineer came and took out the Ethernet to the mini box and set up a wi-fi booster. He left the Ethernet connected to the main box but I found it did not like having wi-fi and Ethernet connected together and the connection kept flickering. Ethernet now unplugged from main box and all connectivity issues appear to be resolved.

I mentioned to the engineer that Sky Q seemed to be terribly fussy in its connectivity, compared to any other device in my house. He said that was an understatement!

I think it is absolutely dreadful that the Sky Q box doesn't remember the internet password  if it loses wifi connection, whether it is a mains power break or internet shut down.  Everything else does -  your laptops and PCs, all your mobile phones - so why not the Sky Q box???   It is totally unacceptable and Sky need to sort it out, and provide us with proper boxes - without charge, of course.

It DOES remember your password as pointed out further up this thread.  It just may take sometime to do it (mine is normally around 5 mins after a power cut) - be patient.
