Re: HDR v3 box not fit for purpose (sound cutting out)

@braer

I think you'll find that most people on this thread have tried every option.

I don't have Sky broadband. So no Sky router. I hard wire everything and have a constant 300mbps - not shared with anyone so it doesn't vary, ever.

I have an AV setup. Plus an LG top of the line OLED. Separate Apple TV 4K. I run ALL extra apps (like Disney+ Britbox, National Theatre, Netflix etc) either dirctly from the TV or from my Apple TV box.

The ONLY audio dropouts I experience is from the Sky Q box.

I have tried eliminating every link in the chain, changed cables, cahnged settings. Sometimes it works - for a short time.

I've had 3 days of dropout-free viewing ( that was 2 weeks ago) and thought problems were solved.

Sadly, the virus mutates (ring a bell?).

Nobody, repeat, nobody has yet been fully cured of the dropout desease. Yet.

Re: HDR v3 box not fit for purpose (sound cutting out)

Intrestingly - I have only ever had the audio drop outs on the V3 Q box, but whilst watching a recent football match on The BT Sport App via my Apple TV (Which was a Dolby Atmos Broadcast) I suffered exactly the same type of drop outs.  I am now starting to consider whether there is an issue with my LG OLED tv and Atmos broadcasts generally?

I've only been free of drop outs for a couple of days so I'll monitor and report back if my tweak lasts! 🤞🏻 Anyone had success by reverting back to HD+ box?

@Anonymous

That's sad to hear.

But it's NOT your LG TV. Really

Re: HDR v3 box not fit for purpose (sound cutting out)

I agree, definitely NOT the TV's.. The only thing that changed on my set up when it started was the q box.

Re: HDR v3 box not fit for purpose (sound cutting out)

@braer  sky craftily change the LNB so your dish can only be used with the q boxes.

i questioned it at the time of fitting, the engineer said it was designed with forward compatibility in mind.

pity their q boxes are junk

@Stoatgobler

I'm not here to defend them as I think it's shockingly poor and fortunately for me I'm still running a V1 box. But that said they HAVE shown interest, have replied to this thread, have acknowledged the issue and have invited a number of forum users to participate in help. Saying they're showing "no interest" is false.

again, I reiterate I'm not apologising or making excuses for them because two years is poor.

Re: HDR v3 box not fit for purpose (sound cutting out)

@Stoatgobler you are partially right, they do change the  LNB but they can fit one which allows both sky q and sky HD to work. I fortunately asked for that so I can use the old HD box when the dropouts get too much. Makes the endless wait for a fix a little more bearable!

Re: HDR v3 box not fit for purpose (sound cutting out)

I was wondering whether we could take a poll on folks screen names in the thread. So a few categories sprung to mind like

1. funniest.

2. strangest.

3. rudest.

I'd set up a form to take votes. Ah, but, the thought police would step in and pull the post.

Re: HDR v3 box not fit for purpose (sound cutting out)

 @Stuvennn  ok I'll rephrase it, sky have feigned a superficial interest! Come on mate sky's response has been pathetic, fortunately if you have a v1 your not affected, imagine buying a high end expensive washing machine that floods all over the place, would you stand for it if after over 2 years it wasn't fixed or replaced, but the shop said oh yes we are aware of it, we've been looking into it and asked other customers with flooded homes to help us in a survey too, but in the meantime you still need to pay us £100 a month to use it!

it's a similar scenario

Re: HDR v3 box not fit for purpose (sound cutting out)

@Stoatgobler agree with that mate.

if I had upgraded to a V3 box I'd be going down the complaint route. I'd be asking for the upgrade cost back along with a reduced monthly bill that that made that easier monthly contract easier to swallow.

Re: HDR v3 box not fit for purpose (sound cutting out)

I had this problem when I upgraded to the V3 box. Sky sent me 2 replacement boxes but exactly the same - random sound gliches on apps and playback.

Last week Sky finally acknowledged this was a known problem and they are developing a fix (no timescales).

They downgraded me to a 1tb non HDR box and gave me my box upgrade money back.

 I noticed that the gliches still happen on non hdr but no where near as often - annoying.

Re: HDR v3 box not fit for purpose (sound cutting out)

Just had letter from sky they are still flogging sky q as their premium product, they want me to take up their incredible one time come back offer of £111 after I previously turned it down when I cancelled at £81.

i got what sky we’re offering from virgin including a lot more for £79.

sky seem to be deluded still offering this defective product as its flagship offering, especially as its broken and more expensive.

its incredible that sky are still asking an extra £6 a month if you want hd, which now should be as standard.

why are sky still promoting something at a premium price that they have now supposedly said isn’t working properly?

come on kei the sky employee explain that!

Re: HDR v3 box not fit for purpose (sound cutting out)

@Stuvennn I would be interested to hear from any forum members who are involved in helping investigate this issue ?🤔I was asked to complete a form of my setup  and on a second occasion asked if the problem changed over one  particular weekend.That's all I've been asked to do .
