@Caicortic Never had a problem with the mini box.

and bizarrely not had the problem occur in 2 days of testing with the Depeche

Mode and Cure gigs recorded from Sky Arts. The latter HIGHLY recommended.

This is in spite of it showing up worse than ever on that Depeche programme when I tried to watch it the other night on "start from the beginning". 5 dropouts in the first song. But same recording yesterday - perfect.

@Caicortic  Be prepared to constantly have the remote in your hand to rewind every minute or so for the duration of your subscription length!

@Stoatgobler I don't think there is a lack of communication between engineers .They are more likely told to admit nothing?

@Rob1999  I think you’re right, just like over the phone they dare not stray from the script.

i’m sure those who do are reprimanded for it. As we’ve said before, to admit to it obliges them to fix it, and explain to their long suffering customers what’s going on, and how they  plan to compensate them.

As an aside the upgrade offer for an HDR box is no longer available to me on my offers.  I wonder if there's been a temporary pause?

I still suspect it's a software issue but only time will tell.

Apparently there are supply problems with the 2TB boxes so they aren't being offered at the moment. The 1TB UHD box is still available.

@Stoatgobler @Rob1999  - yes, there's definitely a say nothing approach for anyone working at Sky.

Being someone who has made programmes for Sky through other production companies (on a freelance basis), I've naturally been extremely annoyed about these on-going audio issues, and been very vocal about it on these forums. I've found that several of my posts have been removed very quickly by the moderators. Basically anything linking me as being a Sky employee (which I never have directly been) and being critical of their service is taken down.

Let's see if this post actually lasts longer than 5 minutes on the thread eh?

@fizzdisco  Same here, every time they hear the word watchdog your post disappears, it’s as bad as the sky sympathisers on here moaning  at you for daring to encourage others to complain publicly.

ive been away from sky for two years just had it reinstalled yesterday after being hounded for a long time with great deals, yes I know im weak lol

anyway had sky q reinstalled yesterday and after 30 mins I found that the sound is being interrupted every few minutes on recordings and live TV and to make matters worse it's now started to happen to my Xbox series x.

@scotty79  On my q box only set up - no minis. I found that using my own router solved the problem for me. In my case my router allows me to logically separate the sky q box from any other kit on my network. I'm not suggesting you buy another router as others on here have had different results. But, if you have one in the cupboard or can borrow one then give it a try. But, only if it allows you to set up different vlans that you can assign to each of the lan ports or wifi ssids.

Where's watchdog gone? Thought they were going to take this shower to task.

@fizzdisco  Clearly you have friends in the right place - your post survives   😉

Re: HDR v3 box not fit for purpose (sound cutting out)

After switching to G-fast super fast 160Mb broadband, we also upgraded to an HDR10 Sky Q box. After a plethora of issues with the 204 router we turned the WiFi router capability off and left the 204 to operate as a modem. A full Eero Pro went in (that can handle IP address allocation far better than the sky kit), and the Sky Q & 2 mini boxes were Ethernet connected to the SR204. I hoped that was the end of the misery. Wrong.

Regular sound drops on the main HDR10 box, connection drops on the minis (not sure how when wired in - all boxes have both 2.4/5ghz turned off too, so can only be on cat 6).

We're running a new OLED Panasonic, 4K 120hz compatible HDMI cables, 2020 8k ready Denon AV receiver, so I'm optimistic the kit is not the issue. The sky box is too new to be suffering HDD issues, so it must be something else within the Sky infrastructure.

I've been trying to identify if the sound drop outs are logical, e.g. happening when volume is loud/quiet, maybe when picture content is fast moving so a lot of visual processing might be going on in the box, but there appears to be no consistency at all. It happens lesson some channels than others, but again this is inconsistent. I am running 7.1, so I'm unsure if optical can deliver more than 5.1 so haven't tried that route as yet to see if it stabilises audio.

Sky sold us this 2Tb HDR10 box in February 2021 so they are still pushing these boxes out to customers irrespective of the issues.

My personal opinion is (for what it's worth), so much new technology product is rushed to market, built to minimum cost, yet marketed as delivering best in class. It's clever stuff, but it often lacks polish or precision. The issue is as consumers we pay top dollar and we therefore expect the marketeers dream. It rarely delivers. By ignoring, not addressing or at worst suppressing the issue customers get even more irate.

I'm annoyed rather than furious, sound is fundamental, it's a huge part of the experience so it's concerning if this isn't being recognised as an issue within Sky. My bigger issue is I'm not sure what the best alternative is. Come on Sky, stop pushing the innovation, fix the basics first please. Very disappointing.

Re: HDR v3 box not fit for purpose (sound cutting out)

Two nights of running my sky q box with Q120.002.13.00L firmware after being given a replacement box. Absolutely perfect running - no sound dropouts or picture glitches.

The firmware to enable HDR running must have a bug that produces a processing fault when the box is under stress.

Box doesn't even need to be under stress. I've had many dropouts when just playing back a simple SD or HD recording, with nothing else being recorded or downloaded at the same time. They can happen with any format of recorded content, at any output resolution.
