Re: HDR v3 box not fit for purpose (sound cutting out)
Bought a sony xh90 a week ago ,then realised my v1 box didn't do hdr so had a v3 delivered Thursday and the the drop outs started.
Today after messing about with settings I turned off "film mode" on the TV.
I've watched recorded programs, sky cinema and Amazon prime without any drop outs. I was also getting a flash across the screen every so often, this has also stopped.
Having read up on film mode it adds frames or something, maybe the sky box doesn't recognise it ,I don't know enough about it but it might help someone.

Re: HDR v3 box not fit for purpose (sound cutting out)
Im not entirely sure what film mode means on your TV but it sounds like a common TV feature which tries to increase the default frame rate from 24hz to what ever your TV outputs. Yes, this would normally be done by your TV trying its best to insert additional frames.
Personally, I cant stand this "soap opera" effect, looks incredibly fake and cartoony and have this all switched off on my LG OLED.

Re: HDR v3 box not fit for purpose (sound cutting out)
I keep reading so many posts on Audio drop out, Lip Sync issues, judder on apps. Everyone presenting possibly solutions. Ultimately SkyQ has a lot of issues, and none of them seem to within sky's ability to fix. Sky cannot blame Samsung when a firestick works correctly. So my advise is simple, ditch sky for Virgin, or put up with it and use native apps and on your TV.

Not everyone will have Virgin available (I only have sky available not Virgin), and I guess not everyone will have a Smart TV, although expect most people do. I have a multiroom with a Pioneer Kuro, which is not a smart TV.

Re: HDR v3 box not fit for purpose (sound cutting out)
I keep seeing alot of posts about upgrading to a v3 box, different sound setups etc possibly causing/starting the sound drop outs, but I can't see how they could be the fault as I have an 8 yr old Panasonic TV and a 1 TB Q box that I got a little over a year ago. I haven't made any changes to setup or equipment and then a little over 2 weeks ago the sound drop outs started - sometimes accompanied by slight picture judder.
I've tried calling Sky twice but with 45 min wait times I haven't stuck around to manage a conversation. They have until May when my contract ends, and then I'm off elsewhere I'm afraid.

Re: HDR v3 box not fit for purpose (sound cutting out)
Know when you try to run a video game on a pc that cannot handle it, too low spec, you get stutter, sound dropouts, and other weird behaviour?
The skyQ box is not adequately spec'd for what sky want it to do, for a start they've cut every corner possible and then miraculously expect everything to keep working
Wouldn't be surprised if it's the hard drive that's a major issue
It annoys me even more when I start using my other hardware and all of it just works flawlessly, and I'm paying Sky for the honour of using their degraded rubbish
In fairness to them they have refunded last months payment, but this has been going on for me personally since last August, one month refund just doesn't do it, they did say they'll be in touch in a few weeks to discuss any progress they've made but I won't hold my breath

Re: HDR v3 box not fit for purpose (sound cutting out)
A further update, watching a wonderful UHD movie last night on sky cinema called A hidden Life (which means it's streamed), I had drop outs on sound. Future to my equipment specification, my ISP is called Truespeed, I have a Gb of fibre coming into my house and 250mbps into the sky box (actually a full 100mbps because its etherneted) and sky box can only take 100) so there is no problem with bandwidth, IT'S ALL IN THE SKY BOX, its firmware or software.

Re: HDR v3 box not fit for purpose (sound cutting out)
@The+boy+himself , presumably it may also be the SkyQ box hardware also?

Re: HDR v3 box not fit for purpose (sound cutting out)
@The+boy+himselfMovies are not exactly streamed, as they are downloaded to the hard disc and then played from there, if there are playback problems and there should not be unless you FF further than the point the recording has reached.
Do you get any playback problems if you let the movie fully download before playing, or if not all a substantial amount.

Re: HDR v3 box not fit for purpose (sound cutting out)
No content on Sky is streamed. Netflix, YouTube, Prime, Discovery etc are streamed but nothing on Sky, which is all downloaded.
Streaming is like a shower where the water comes in and drains away immediately. Downloading is like filling a bath.

@Stuvennn Here are box specs.
https://www.sky.com/help/articles/sky-q-box-specs
And given the range of boxes that are affected it's not clear what the common hardware component(s) are.

Re: HDR v3 box not fit for purpose (sound cutting out)
The Hard drive seems to be involved in the problem, anything I have on there plays up .From previous posts it would appear streamed material is shown with a slight delay so must also use it .Is so random though what ever causes it happens for no obvious reason 🤔

Re: HDR v3 box not fit for purpose (sound cutting out)
@bob1234 On a previous post where I listed a downloaded movie I noticed the dropouts happened at different points if you watched it again and again. So, watch the movie until you get a dropout. Then rewind a bit and watch again, this time no dropout where it was before. But a bit later another dropout where you didn't before. But in my case for dropout free connect w box back to my Draytek router. When I get some time I will try and repeat watching the movie but this time with the q box not connected to any router and then resetting the q box network strings so that the q box has no ip address assigned to it.

@bob1234 This is the odd thing isn't it? seems to be hard drive related but isn't in the recording on it ! Some kind of interference very frustrating.
