@Q-tips   What are the group of white dots on your screen?  Reflection?

Yes, it's a table lamp. I obviously don't see it from normal viewing angle.

Re: HDR v3 box not fit for purpose (sound cutting out)

@rscott I'm using the HDMI cable that came with the V3 box when my v1 was swapped out. Had the issue (albeit less frequent on the v1) with a different TV.

I've tried different HDMI ports (apart from the eARC since my soundbar is connected to that) and the same issue. Fire TV 4k works flawlessly on any port. Guess they haven't skimped on the hardware unlike Sky, perfect example is the Sky Q box hasn't even got an SSD but a spinning disk, how quaint

They're using a hard drive for a simple reason - it's far more appropriate than a consumer grade SSD.  Same reason pretty much every CCTV system uses hard drives still - the constant rewriting massively shortens the life of the drive because the box will be continually buffering whatever is being watched.

And the reason why consumer grade SSDs shouldn't be used for mining Chia.

If you want to have a suitable SSD in a Q box, it's possible - a 1.92TB enterprise SSD is anything from £360 to £500, depending on the usage profile they're designed for.

£50.00 FireTv stick 4k does Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos unlike Samsung's 2021 flagship TV which hasn't got either.

Re: HDR v3 box not fit for purpose (sound cutting out)

@best+of+the+best The addition of HDR10+ makes the lack of Dolby Vision matter less. It's also subjective as to which HDR format is better, I'm not sure I could tell the difference personally. One of my mates mistook my TV for an OLED because of the deep blacks it could achieve

If LG had a similar setup to the one connect box I would have probably gone LG despite my reservations about OLED burn in, but having a single cable and easy access to the HDMI ports without having to disturb the TV on the wall is much more preferable

Re: HDR v3 box not fit for purpose (sound cutting out)

Think I might have sussed why we were still getting sound drops with Q160 during live broadcasts. 🤞
We don't have dolby speakers connected and our audio HDMI and optical settings were set to dolby. The audio settings screen advises selecting 'normal' if you don't have a dolby setup connected.
So I switched them to 'normal' yesterday and haven't noticed any sound drops since (touch wood).

Re: HDR v3 box not fit for purpose (sound cutting out)

@Scobo I have a Dolby Atmos setup and get drop outs on live broadcast but I believe they haven't fixed live broadcasts yet, only download etc.

I did get a drop out today on Back to the Future download in UHD HDR, only one in the whole movie, so it's definitely a vast improvement, that was with Dolby Atmos switched on

Yeah that was my understanding too but I've yet to hear a sound drop on live or recorded since changing audio to 'normal'.

Hoping it's not just coincidence.

Re: HDR v3 box not fit for purpose (sound cutting out)

You should be able to manually download the update as we've just enabled it.

We'll leave this thread for a few weeks and assuming nothing major comes to light we'll close it off and let people create their own threads around their own specific scenario as we're increasingly more confident that we've found a fix for the vast majority of people here.

Re: HDR v3 box not fit for purpose (sound cutting out)

@Kei+M when was this done! I tried a manual update last night and still gave me Q150, thinking it mite of updated it self in the early morning hours I checked this morning and still on Q150? So are you saying if I get home tonight and do a manual update I will receive Q160.

Fair enough but as one of the minority of customers still experiencing problems under Q160, I'm hoping that my (third) Sky engineer visit on Thursday can find the cause of my ongoing (Mini) audio dropouts and pixelation glitches. He may replace my satellite cabling or even swap out both of my Minis as everything else has been check and tested. Fingers crossed. Primarily for his benefit, I have uploaded post-Q160 examples of the glitches to Youtube:

@Q-tips Yeah that's completely different from what was fixed in q160.

wifi interference maybe since it only happens on a mini? Looks very odd.
