That's disappointing, Sky confirmed on a related thread some time ago they were aware of this problem (HDR dropouts to SDR) had been able to replicate it and were working on a solution. I'd hoped it would have been addressed with the other v3 box issues (sound drop outs and WiFi interference).
It's not a v3 specific problem, unlike the SSDP packet and audio dropout issues which were the focus of Q160.

...and with perfect timing, just as I'm typing my reply I get a promotional email from Sky asking me if I'm "all set for 2021 with HDR"! Got to laugh.

It must be more TV related since I've watched the entire Lord of the Rings Trilogy and other films and shows in HLG without it dropping out. It's just the odd sound dropout until I get Q16 on my V3.

That's not something I've ever had on my 2TB V3 box. I've watched a lot of Sky's HDR content and movies under both Q150 and Q160 and never experienced a loss of HLG. Could be a dodgy HDMI cable maybe?

Kit is fine. Sky Q is the issue. I have a lot more than just SkyQ as my sources and it's the only one that plays up. Also, this 'feature' is a known problem according to Sky itself.

Any idea if the box needs to be in standby or can an update still be sent if the box is on ?
Just wondering if that's why our main box didn't get the trial update as my wife sometimes forgets to turn the box off as well as the tv.

if your viewing card is flagged by Sky as being part of the update batch, then your boxes should get it whether they're on or in standby.

I agree wholeheartedly. Sky Q has been the only bit of kit in my AV setup that has consistently had faults. It's only now, after nearly a year, that it's finally scraping into the 'just about fit for purpose' category and is working better than it ever has done for me.
The HDR drop-out issue seems to be less common and certainly hasn't gathered the same level of complaints that the audio drop-outs have done. I guess it could be down to fewer people actually using HDR, but at least Sky are aware of it being a problem and are hopefully doing something about it.
I'll certainly pipe up about it if it becomes an issue for me. I love a good moan about Q.

@Scobo So long as the box is plugged in and on standby it should update. I think it can also actually be on and in use as I've seen it mentioned on here in the past that an update happened whilst watching a programme. So long as the box is plugged in and switched on at the wall it'll update automatically (at least, it should).

Well, after cancelling my Sky TV in January due to the dropouts I've now come back to Sky TV having seen the good reviews here on the Q160 update.
I was quite happy using Now TV on my Apple 4K for the Sky channels but struggled to find something that matched Sky for all the other channels. I got a Freesat 4K recorder but that really is quite abysmal and has gone in to storage. The deal Sky offered for me to return only cost a few pounds extra than I was paying monthly for Now TV and Netflix, plus I got Sky Cinema included.
I received my v3 box yesterday with Q130 software loaded. I watched Tenet last night and had a couple of dropouts, but, it didn't affect the movie as I hadn't a clue what was going on anyway🤯. I tried a forced update but no luck. Just need to wait for Q160 to arrive now🤞.
Again, thanks to everyone who complained to Sky about the dropouts and eventually got this fixed, especially those who stuck with Sky and tested the new updates, you obviously have more patience than me!
If there's one thing this fiasco has taught me it's not to be complacent with Sky. If they offer new hardware look at the forums and do research before taking it.

I'm using a version 2 box but have noticed that it has been updated to Q160 today. Hopefully, this will sort out the bad sound drop outs on this box 🤞

Q160 has fixes for dropouts on the V3 box only.
Q150 was the version which addressed a lot of dropouts on recordings/downloads for all boxes.

Perhaps you can expand on the differences between the drop outs that q150 addressed across all box variants and drop outs on v3 that q160 fixes.

@rscott why would the fix only apply to the audio dropouts on the V3 and not fix the same issue on the V2 and or connected minis?
If it's the same problem then the fix for one would fix the others? Or are you part of the club that denies the problem exists on anything other than the V3?

Turning off is fine.
Turning off "at the main plug socket" is not.
You must leave the main plug socket "on"
Just saying.
