Re: HDR v3 box not fit for purpose (sound cutting out)
I don't disagree, and a thread with getting on for 3,000 posts is far too unresponsive. But I'm just pointing out this looks to at least be good news for a solution - they wouldn't conduct the survey and then not do anything meaningful with the results. They'd face a European Super League-size uproar otherwise...

And there'll be a European Super League sized uproar if Q160 doesn't solve it after all this time...

Re: HDR v3 box not fit for purpose (sound cutting out)
Well, big day for me today. Got a chap coming around later to cable the Sky Q box to the router via ethernet and also run an ethernet cable from the router to the mini box downstairs. Will then turn off wifi to the Sky Q and mini box.
I'm not expecting this to cure the drop outs but it will stop the appalling drop outs in connection between the Q box and Mini which have at times, made the system unwatchable downstairs.
If, by some miracle, this helps with the sound/picture/voice syncing on the Q box in the main lounge then I wll share my unbridled joy (and surprise)

Re: HDR v3 box not fit for purpose (sound cutting out)
I'm confused that the survey said if your Q box is connected to an AVR, is it connected to the ARC input? Isn't it outputs of an AVR that need to be ARC capable to get sound back from the TV?

Re: HDR v3 box not fit for purpose (sound cutting out)
@Rhonny with respect, I’d rather they fixed the issue 2.5 years ago, like I said this is one of the worlds biggest multimedia/ tech corporations, they have the facilities, capabilities and money to get behind this if they really cared about their loyal subscribers paying a fortune for this pathetic product.
remember people are paying around £100 a month for this service, it’s not a free product or a hobby for enthusiasts.
to be honest @Rhonny i don’t even think sky have even got round to scratching their heads over this issue.

I assumed that was just poor phrasing. I think it just means that you are listening via an AVR which is correctly connected to your TV via HDMI ARC. The HDMI ARC output/input thing on AVRs does confuse some people so it's hardly surprising if it confuses someone at Sky. 😁
I'm not really sure why Sky are asking this anyway. I use an AVR but don't use ARC. I send the Q output to one of four HDMI inputs on the amp and have just one HDMI output going to the TV to a non-ARC HDMI input. This passes through the full video signal from all the devices I have attached to the AVR, and the amp deals with all the sound directly. I've found this to be the best for lip-sync across all devices. No audio comes from the TV back to the amp, except via optical. I use this when using TV apps.
Sky Q is the only device which has the drop-out issue, with every other device (4K Firestick, 4K Blu-Ray player, Freeview HD PVR) the audio via HDMI is flawless. I've tested every permutation from the Q box, including bypassing the amp completely and using the TV speakers but the drop-outs occur under all circumstances.

Re: HDR v3 box not fit for purpose (sound cutting out)
Posted before about this and wondered if there's any chance someone can try my connections and report back. It's not the answer but stops drop outs, I have no hdmi connection to the amp at all. The hdmi goes from Q directly to the tv, my optical from Q goes to amp to provide the sound. As I said earlier not the answer as optical loses functionality (atmos) so a long term fix is needed. But short term I get zero drop outs which makes things bearable till the fix arrives! Interested to know if this works for anyone else.. TIA

@fizzdisco wrote:Well said @Stoatgobler - it's a farce. Any company who continue to advertise and sell their flagship product with a flaw that has gone unfixed for more than a year clearly cares about nothing else than money.
@Rhonny - they should have been scratching their heads, ripping the lid off the box and rebuilding it from scratch a long time ago, not bumbling along as if this is a minor issue that nobody really cares about.
The contempt Sky have for their customers is just shameful.
As an outsider looking in - as we've a v1 box and none of these issues - it looks to me as though Sky didn't take notice/start to do anything with this (or the SSDP flooding issue) until people started "upgrading" to HDR and having a v1 box swapped with a v2/v3.
At that point in time you've now got a group of people, a no. of which are now having these issues and the only change is v1 -> v2/v3 that points heavily to it being an issue with the box.
Up until then, it's been a usual company response of it must be "them" (something else) not us.
I don't understand how either of these two issues weren't seen in the lab though. I know there's a ludicrous no. of permutations of TV, AVR, ISP & Sky Box, but considering how many people are having these issues across all the posts, surely this was seen behind closed doors, but they released anyway.

Tried that. Didn't work for me.
How long have you had no drop-outs with this connection? Are you outputting Dolby Digital or Normal via optical? Are you mainly watching live TV? I get no drop-outs when watching live, only on playback of recordings.

Re: HDR v3 box not fit for purpose (sound cutting out)
So I've been running this since Feb, I have Dolby digital and zero drops on live or recordings. Perhaps this just shows there's no 1 way fix for all.. I'm amazed at the difference to be honest, as soon as I even connect a hdmi to the amp the drops are unbearable!

Re: HDR v3 box not fit for purpose (sound cutting out)
@braer no different for me with your setup. Tried all sorts of combinations of TV, amp, cable etc. Only thing that made any difference for me was disconnecting SkyQ completely from the internet. With all WiFi disabled and only ethernet connected, if I started getting dropouts I just pulled the ethernet and they stopped instantly. Those audio dropouts were every 30 seconds on the dot tho - not the random 1 or 2 per hour that others seem to be having, so I don't expect that to work for everyone

Can you link us to source info re DR, @Pistonhead? Forcing update with restart did nothing for me. I'm still on Q140 after attempting force update + restart

Strange that it's not updating. Q150 is listed as the latest version on here:
https://www.sky.com/help/articles/check-which-sky-q-box
Forcing the update worked on my 32B2xx 2TB V3 box a few days ago.
