Getting Ultrafast BB and got a question on 3rd party router

With the FTTP unit do i still need to look for a modem/router combo or can I just look into geting a Netgear "gaming" Router one?

With FTTP the Openreach ONT is the 'modem', so any router capable of making a WANoE connection should be suitable: you don't need a VDSL port.  It may, however, be wise to purchase a model known to be compatible with the use by Sky of MER (sometimes referred to as DHCP Option 61).

Do note that no-one has yet identified a way of using Sky Talk over VOIP with a non-Sky router.

XR 700

V1.0.1.10 and above

The above netgear and firmware will work with sky mer dhcp option 61

Re: Getting Ultrafast BB and got a question on 3rd party router

@cookiemonsteruk  Would you happen to know if the Nighthawk XR1000 would work or one of the other versions? I'm looking into the Netduma part of the routers.

Doesn't appear to work natively without flashing 3rd party firmware. However cannot find table of hardware for netduma. The other firmware would be ddwrt flashed to stock xr1000 again need to check ToH for that model

No ddwrt support foq xr1000. Back to netduma.  If you can buy it already customised with dumaos or is flashable with it and support mer/dhcp option 61 then it should work

Re: Getting Ultrafast BB and got a question on 3rd party router

@cookiemonsteruk  Little clueless when it comes to networking hehe but the netduma is an OS on their "gaming" routers its from netgear itself.  Quick look on their forums seems the XR1000 doesn't suport option 61 but its requested so maybe down the road 😞

On fttp authentiation is also done via dhcpv6 prefix delegation piggy backing off dhcp v4 (or vice versa ) sorry for techo babble 😁 but is a risky purchase if neither authentication is implemented

Re: Getting Ultrafast BB and got a question on 3rd party router

@cookiemonsteruk  Mind if i ask you a question seems I'm missing somthing, got the router decided to stick it through the normal ADSL sky router (no FTTP yet few weeks out) got it working without issues I can see the Xbox and TV and they connect and play games no problem but the Sky box isn't shown a connection and it says no internet did I miss a setting?

Set up atm is skyrouter set DMZ for XR500 connection to a S8000 switch where the TV, Xbox and Sky are lan cabbled in. Maybe its just an issues doing it this way until the FTTP gets put in or just a setting I'm forgeting to set?
