Re: Forces TV 181 has disappeared

Frequency:   11.836

Polarisation:  H

Symbol Rage:   27500

FEC:   5/6

You go into Options and then Other Channels first.   Downside is you cannot record anything, but I have the same with Channel 5, ITV 3 and 4 as we ae in Ireland.   Good luck

Forces tv closed today at 11 am  so sky has taken it off the planner as the channel no longer is broadcasting. It not sky but the channel itself and is something to do with ee

ForcesTV occupied a Freeview multiplex which has had its frequency removed from television broadcast to use for 5G cellular data : this is ultimately a Government decision, as spectrum allocation is subject to national regulation.

The British Forces Broadcasting Service has decided that this loss of coverage (on top of other factors) means that distribution on any platform other than online isn't something they can continue to fund.

“With wider changes happening to Freeview, options to continue broadcasting the channel are not financially viable for BFBS, the charity behind Forces TV, whose purpose is to entertain, inform, connect and champion our armed forces community, their families and veterans.

Our priority is to give the best possible service to our military audiences. For everyone interested in the work of the UK military, all the news, features, sport plus more, will still be available on our digital channels, including Forces News Youtube and on Forces.net"

Do you ever bother to read the replies to your posts?

As with RT, CBS and all the other channels you've complained about they're NOT Sky channels and consequently Sky has no say in their decision to close or what they call themselves.

You're ranting at the wrong people. Again.

Uh, the charity behind the channel is moving to online-only because they have a legal responsibility to spend donation income most effectively, and maintaining a service on broadcast platforms for a tiny audience doesn't fulfil that criteria: they will continue their key role of providing news of and to HM Armed Forces through their internet output.

Re: Forces TV 181 has disappeared

That is sad as my husband does not do the internet, his eyesight is not good and he really enjoys the channel as he can see it better on a big screen.

PCs can output to a TV via HDMI so I cannot see the screen size as being a barrier

Suspect that will fall on deaf ears @TimmyBGood

@scouselfc is fixated on blaming Sky and 'the government' so it won't fit his model of how things work 😁

It should usually be possible to attach a computing device (PC/laptop) to a television (or 'cast' to it)

However ForcesTV isn't continuing as an online platform for re-running old (and cheap) series, because that's a market now occupied by many other services: they are going back to their core British Forces Broadcasting Service heritage, which arguably running a broadcast entertainment television channel diverted them away from.

Re: Forces TV 181 has disappeared

Adding to my last comment, also we are in Ireland and the TV over here is rubbish.   That is why we have sky.     He particularly liked watching the Forces News and Sport.   Also some old programmes that we never saw before as we were at work.   The comedies were much better then as they weren't about putting people down and revolting language and behaviour.    Never mind, we will have to cope with it and start playing our Long playing records and old DVD's!😪

Re: Forces TV 181 has disappeared

I will have to work out how to do that as, although I use a computer, I live in a rural area and do not have a lot of people around me to help.

Re: Forces TV 181 has disappeared

It's a shame as they had good programs on forces tv even though they were from the 80s and it kept my father quiet as with his dementia he thought they were new programs just made and I did not argue with him as it gave me peace. I'll have to look for something else now to interest him and with a man that not interested in much is going to be a challenge. I must say I got into chip to

@kim+philpot

I would think BritBox is worth investigating (available within the Prime app on Q, I believe).

Totally agree from above.
The channel had a lot of very good calssic content.
Will be missed here a lot.
Many series I had not seen for decades and some that I think has not been repeated since its original broadcast.
It worked well as a channel too, steady pq, laid out well acroos the week for its series and episodes in the correct order. That cannot be said for many other channels these days.
