Faulty Sky Q box

I have been experiencing connectivity issues with all three of my Sky Q mini boxes for over 18 months. I have persevered  with this mainly due to not being able to get an engineers visit during Covid. However it became so bad that it became impossible to watch anything on a mini box without the picture freezing or turning blue. An engineer visited last week and carried out numerous tests eventually identifying a faulty main Sky Q box and one mini box. He said he would need to replace the main box to try and resolve the issue. I reluctantly agreed because I didn't want to lose some of my recordings and only did so on the basis that it would be replaced with the latest version (HDR) but when I checked it is still an old version (32B0xx). To make matters worse I'm still having problems and an engineer is due back on Monday. Can I insist on my Sky Q box being replaced with the latest box or am I wasting my time?

@Mistyboy I would suggest that only if your paying the additional charge of £50 and also if sky have any of the latest HDR boxes available. However thats a negotiation / conversation you need to have with sky before the installation day.

hi @Mistyboy

Unfortunately even though you don't own the SKY Q boxes, they only replace on a like for like basis - although I guess there may be times when they don't have suitable boxes available - butdue to the number of people that have upgraded then I suspect they have a big surplus of the non HDR boxes.

As @brianholt says to upgrade to a later box involves a fee.

Re: Faulty Sky Q box

Sky agreed to send me a HDR compatible box and waved the £50 fee as a gesture of goodwill.  Unfurtunately the two boxes that have been delivered haven't been HDR compatible!  I'm waiting for the next box to arrive which will hopefully be the right model.........

Typical Sky shambles. Their hardware stock control is just woeful.
