FTTP Netgear Orbi Settings?

Hello Community,

I have been with Sky (TV) for a couple of years now and have noticed Openreach installing FTTP to all the poles near me.

My broadband is up in a month and this is with Talk Talk but I'm keen to take advantage of the FTTP. I have read numerous posts here about using 3rd party router/mesh system and that it is possible with only small changes required to the IPV6 settings.

From what I have seen my Orbi GUI doesnt have the same wording as what has been mentioned for the options to select. I'm sure this is just terminology differences and it would be doable but I wanted to ensure here first before ordering. Can anyone help me understand further?

Kind Regards

Dave

The traditional route would be thru dhcp option 61 aka client identifier string anything@skydsl|anything

Thru dhcpv6 prefix delegation you would need to :-

On wan settings :-

Select ip4/ip6 (dual stack)

Enable dhcpv6

And tick pd prefix delegation

On lan settings:-

Select stateless or slaac

Re: FTTP Netgear Orbi Settings?

@cookiemonsteruk @Thanks for the info.

the terminology your using for the WAN and LAN settings are just not there on my Orbi GUI so I can't correlate these settings to what I have available.

The option 61 string does make sense and I can input. However I have read on here that shouldn't be required on the FTTP installs?

thank you for the prompt replies.

Apparently dhcp v6 prefix delegation was ment to be supported in all exchanges in reality not always so dhcp 61 can be used instead . I know not all routers support the prefix delegation route and it would be ideal to have both running as redundancy but not always possible

@Ladalout if you do swap to Sky you may find you can get good wifi coverage using Sky's supplied hub and your Sky tv boxes which become wifi hotspots assuming those are Q boxes rather than the much older Sky HD+ type.

Re: FTTP Netgear Orbi Settings?

@Chrisee @Thank you but owing to the type of house I have and the distance between my sky boxes this isn't a practicable solution for me as the Sky box mesh isn't good enough currently. Also to note my router is right next to the main sky box in my living and this can't be moved.
