Re: Eurosport 4K listings

TV settings are finely tuned, other HDR sources look good, I just think the Eurosport looks a bit meh

@cremeegg And what's the BBC's excuse for no 4k UHD HLG/HDR content.

Re: Eurosport 4K listings

In my opinion I think there's little wrong with the image quality of the stream from eurosport,  on an oled panel it's stunning.

The tennis doesn't look that great. Maybe its because the court is often in a lot of shadow.

The situation is a stark sign of the financial difficulties faced by the BBC, which has to combine the high expectations of the British public, who want to watch free-to-air sport, with the reality of a decade of government-imposed real-term funding cuts. At the same time, the rise of paid-for streaming services, which are increasingly bidding for the rights to show live sport, mean the BBC is increasingly unable to compete on budget when it comes to bidding for sporting events.

Re: Eurosport 4K listings

The 4K stream for Eurosport has been disappointing since the launch of it. Technical issues and it's still not 100% A random black bar at the top of screen, no commentry, sound drop outs the difference in what's been shown on the HD channel to the UHD version... Looking forward to the football next month fingers crossed that won't suffer the same issues.

Interesting choice of quote from that article.

The reality is that in this particular situation the IOC decided to licence all European coverage of the games to a single partner for the first time ever, so even if the BBC had oodles of cash to spend on sports, they still wouldn't have won the auction in this scenario.

Discovery Communications, the parent of television channel Eurosport, has agreed to pay 1.3 billion euros ($1.4 billion) to screen the Olympic Games from 2018 to 2024 across Europe, beating out national public broadcasters who have traditionally shown the event.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) chose Discovery after a competitive auction that attracted more than 10 bids, said Timo Lumme, a television and marketing executive at the IOC.

“This is the first time we have licensed these rights to a single media company to manage and broadcast all the games across all the platforms,” said Lumme.

David Zaslav, the chief executive of Discovery Communications, said the company would sub-license some of the rights to national broadcasters such as the BBC or France Televisions to maximize the reach of the Games.

Discovery has also made a commitment to the IOC that a certain amount of the Games will be available on free-to-air TV and not only paid channels.

The agreement covers the Winter Games in PyeongChang, South Korea, in 2018, and the 2020 Games in Tokyo in 2020, as well as the Olympic Games in 2022 and 2024, the host cities of which have yet to be selected.

It includes 53 countries in Europe, but excludes Russia as well as the rights to France and Britain in 2018 and 2020 since those rights have already been sold.

A random black bar at the top of screen

That's an issue your end. No such bar here.

As per your quote - the BBC bought the rights for the UK this time around (the 2020 games). They have chosen to sub-licence to Discovery / Eurosport, whose rights excluded the UK (plus Russia and France).

Indeed, apologies for the confusion, I should have added more context to my original post.

Discovery get all the European rights, the BBC and Discovery did a deal in 2016 to share access to the 2018 and 2020 events so that the BBC get some live coverage all the way through to 2024 in return.

Still, that has nothing to do with a dwindling licence fee haul and the rise of streaming services. It seems to me the BBC made a good decision considering the IOC deal with Discovery was unprecedented.

Anyone else getting the same?

Re: Eurosport 4K listings

@Kameron working fine for me, except it seems to be stuck on tennis!

I'm watching the F1 practice, which is UHD but not HDR and that's working fine.

Off topic I know so apologies but any recommended HDR picture settings for an LG 55CX? I'm averse normally to any kind of auto / AI options, but with everything off it looks too dark!
