Does a programme have subtitles

The TV listings often don't say whether any given programme has subtitles or not.  I've just switched from Sky+ to Sky Q , and Sky Q seems definitely worse in conveying that information.  How can I get greater consistency in displaying what for me is essential information about a programme?

hi @kangxi

I am very fortunate that I don't need subtitles.

When you are referring to lack of labelling is this on programmes to download or scheduled programmes.

I have just looked at my first page or so on the TV Guide and most programmes are showing as having subtitles (white s symbol)

Are there some specific channels or programmes you are concerned about ?

I do know SKY is often lacking on subtitles for downloaded programmes and especially UHD content

Re: Does a programme have subtitles

@nigea99 Thanks for the answer - I went and checked again and you're right.  Almost all the channels have an S indicator.  In a couple of instances the metadata took a while to load, but arrived eventually.  The lack of S indicators is generally confined to those channels that don't bother with them anyway - Talkingpictures, some of the documentary channels (Sky History, CBS reality, Blaze), and that's not the reponsibility of Sky  but the individual channels themselves.

So I don't know what caused me to think there was a problem in the first place.  If I think it's happening again I'll take notes.

But one area where there may be a problem is in the Movies section.  All the Sky channels have an S but not many othesr.  In particular Film4 has no S showing but I know all their films are generally subtitled.   others without the S showing include TCM, Horror, the 3 Great! channels but as I rarely watch their output I don't know there aren't subtitled or they're just not showing the S in the description.  Who would be responsible for that, if it is a metadata problem?

hi @kangxi

Technically the channel owners are responsible for their entries in the TV guide or info on any Catch up / On demand entries but the first point of contact is probably the main Sky vewer relations  viewerR@sky.uk

As I mentioned I do know from posts here that many channels - including SKY -  often have limited subtitles on download content (Catch up / On demand)  especially UHD content - which in today's technology age is very poor imo

Some of the channels you mention do have older material and sometimes very limited budgets so I guess this will be a factor

Hi @kangxi   Turn on highlight programmes with subtitles in the accessibility settings.
