Re: Cannot watch Kerrang

@samlewis6 As said, Kerrang! broadcasts free-to-air, so you don't pay for the channel, just like you don't pay for ITV, Channel 4, Channel 5, etc, if you took your viewing card out temporarily then you would still see the channel.

You're acting as though they just need to turn it on and off again, but the issues stem from multiple hard drives breaking down, which can't be fixed, so new ones are needed, but they are literally rebuilding entire systems, which need to be put together slowly, then configured so that everything works together, each system is different based on what the different TV channel owners requires, the accesible services systems are also broken, leaving the inability to recover subtitle data, one of the big issues at Channel 4 with their back up subtitles also breaking down.

Magic was able to be recovered on Thursday, so I am expecting Kerrang! can return soon based on conversations I've had with a prominent member of the Box Plus team, but problems are still about, adverts are currently missing from all Box Plus channels, my assumption is this is what delayed the return of 4Music, as they had to rejig the schedule to remove programming that would have messed up the schedule. The server that Magic and Kerrang! play off looked to have been very severely damaged, so that's why it has taken almost four weeks to restore Magic, as with the process for restoring Channel 4, I would imagine Box Plus also want to take a little more time to restore Kerrang! as to make sure the system doesn't break down again (and there are still Magic issues as all the idents and break bumpers are for The Box instead).

There's also the simple fact that restoring some SD music channels has far lower priority than fixing audio description and subtitles on the other channels. Those are Ofcom requirements, so need to be addressed first.

As a customer PAYING for Sky TV I think I, and other customers, would be a better judge of which channels to 'prioritize' when it comes to getting them back on air.  There are numerous channels playing the same old pap, but only Kerrang playing rock & indie music - hence the only one worth watching!!  All of the others are churning out the same old boy/girl band rubbish plus rap and Christ knows what other utter crap...plus, oh joy in October!!!, we have 24 hr a day Christmas music already!!!!!

Sort out the only decent music channel you have!!!!!

IMHO, I do think you are in the minority when it comes to what channels to prioritize to get fully working..

Prior to the failure, Magic had higher viewing figures than Kerrang, so makes sense they prioritised it.

The music channels aren't high priority as the total figures are low and much of the content is easily available on YouTube in higher quality.

You could chase them to see if there's an update?

Re: Cannot watch Kerrang

My current assumption is that the server that Kerrang! plays off has suffered the same damage as the main Channel 4 systems, therefore it is most likely being rebuilt. Channel 4 estimated a timeframe of mid-November for their AD and signing access services to come back (just another way of saying 'the main system', as the back up doesn't currently support anything bar subtitles). As it is Channel 4's responsiblity, the Kerrang! server will be last on the list to be fixed.

Problems are still present at Box Plus even though 5 out of 6 channels are back on air. 4Music resumed its entertainment programming today alongside the return of adverts, but this may have been more to do with the pressure of losing their entertainment EPG slot has it not returned soon. All the sister music channels are still without adverts (a blessing for most).

Re: Cannot watch Kerrang

Yes, the Channel 4 servers at Red Bee have been rebuilt and are now on air. Kerrang! returned yesterday, but is running a simple 'The Anthems' scheudle just for the first few days. Channel 4 looks to have also switched back to their *new* main system.
