Re: Broadcast Quality

I have been in contact with Sky Broadcasting department and despite the fact that the American broadcaster is showing Amen Corner and other selected holes in 4K, Sky are only broadcasting the event in HD. They (Sky Broadcasting dept. ) say that is the agreement with the American broadcaster. They (Sky) would not confirm with me whether this was a financial decision. If so I think this is a very poor service from Sky, especially as 4k is always at the forefront of its advertising campaigns. I believe last years Sky Masters coverage broadcast Amen Corner in 4k  if I'm right in this belief then this year's coverage is a backward step with regards to broadcast resolution. I would also like to mention the fact that the Sky mini box only outputs in HD. THerefore if you want to view 4k on another device you will have to run another HDMI cable to the device. I'm fed up with Sky pushing 4k in their advertising and making it awkward or impossible to view on 4K  around your house.

Hi @Adam+Mouse

How to watch The Masters 2022 in UK

TV coverage on Sky Sports Golf (Sky channel 405) and Sky Sports Main Event (Sky channel 401) and live stream on the NOW app on mobile, tablet or smart TV (£33.99 per month; £11.98 for a 24-hour pass) or via the Sky Go app for existing subscribers.

There is a global broadcast window which prevents Sky Sports from broadcasting the entirety of The Masters on television, but they have released the following day-by-day details:

  • Thursday 7 April – Coverage live on Sky Sports Golf from 7.30pm until 12.30am, while on the red button: a feed of holes 4-6 from 2.30pm, Amen Corner from 3.45pm, holes 15-16 from 4.45pm and featured groups from 6.30pm
  • Friday 8 April – Coverage live on Sky Sports Golf from 7.30pm until 12.30am, while on the red button: a feed of featured groups from 3.15pm, holes 4-6 from 2.30pm, Amen Corner from 3.45pm, holes 15-16 from 4.45pm and featured groups from 6.30pm
  • Saturday 9 April – Coverage live on Sky Sports Golf from 7.30pm until 12.30am, while on the red button: a feed of holes 4-6 from 3.30pm, Amen Corner from 4.45pm, holes 15-16 from 5.30pm
  • Sunday 10 April – Coverage live on Sky Sports Golf from 6.30pm until 12.30am, while on the red button: a feed of featured groups from 3.15pm, holes 4-6 from 3.30pm, Amen Corner from 4.45pm, holes 15-16 from 5.30pm

It is in HD & not likely to be UHD - no golf to date to my knowledge has been in UHD and there are both Football fixtures & F1 this weekend that will be in UHD

Last year some of the coverage seemed to be poorer than others although not too sure why - hopefully this year it will all be at least HD (Edit : although I haven't watched all the coverage this week so far,  all that I have watched has been good HD)

Re: Broadcast Quality

If you live in the US and have the correct service, you will be able to watch The Masters in UHD/HDR (HLG).

@LGUser

Only the trio of Amen Corner holes and 15/16 are broadcast in 4K I think, not the whole course.

No the Amen coverage was not 4K on SKY  last year - in fact it may have been one of the elements that seemed poorer than HD at times but I could be wrong on this point (not regarding the 4K)

When Q was specified in 2015 there was no silicon available which could support UHD relay from a main to a Mini box, so that was not going to be an option.  In theory a revised Mini with an HDMI 2.0 chipset could now be released (plus a new main Q box to support it), but Sky Glass appears to be the intended product for that market segment anyway.

@LGUser Highly unlikely that any Sky subscribers live in the US.

I'm just saying 4k Masters is available in the US but not the UK.
